After 39 years of rescue dogs then 7 months with no canine company the wife brought home her heart's desire.
Flow has grown a bit in the four weeks since she came home but she seems to think her place is curled up in front of the fire beside me.

Got a text from the wife this morning. She and grand daughter were walking the pup on the marsh when a flock of Canada geese flew over. The pup freaked out. Terrified of the honking.
As we live on the banks of the river, we have some work to do.

Man does that poster ever ring true Baz. My older Schnauzer 'needs his space' and I've constantly got people coming up to him with their 'friendly dogs'. Good intentions, no doubt, but it creates a lot of stress. He is very territorial and when he is on his leash, his territory is wherever he happens to be.

Enjoying all the posts in this thread.

I volunteer for a Golden Retriever rescue and they needed someone to keep this 9 week Golden Doodle for the weekend after its appointment with a cardiologist since its foster lives in SD and it caught a ride to the Twin Cities with another rescue going to the same vet.

She has a heart murmur and was surrendered by the breeder, unfortunately the checkup revealed that her valves are thicker than normal so the surgery will have less chance of being the cure.

Pretty sweet pup except she would much prefer my arm or face to her chew toys- barracuda teeth on this girl!

Glad you can help this girl out, Rutager - good for you.

The part I bolded above is why I hate breeders!

Very irresponsible!

Thanks Baz,

I’ll at least give the breeder credit for reaching out to the rescue rather than just putting her down.

She’s coming back to town this coming week for the surgery at the U of M, unfortunately I can’t host her as I’m already watching another foster dog that week.

Best,
Rutager

Why didn't the breeder make the proper arrangements for what the dog needs instead of passing her off to someone else....is my question.

The breeder is the one responsible for bringing more puppies into a world which has shelters already overflowing with puppies!

Giving the breeder credit for not euthanizing the puppy to me is not something I would do, under the circumstances.

Obviously the puppy is worth saving. The breeder's concern is making $$$ at the expense of whatever gets in the way of doing that ....and to me...that stinks!

Sorry Rutager.....not shooting at the messenger. Respect to you for doing what you can in the face of yet another case of breeder irresponsibility.....:(

Hi Baz,

No apology needed, working with this rescue, I’ve witnessed the poor terrified puppy mill dogs first hand and it makes me mad too.

Best,
Rutager

Walked into the living room and saw this when I got home from work Friday. Beau tried to tell me it was the cat who made this mess. I politely reminded him that we have no cat... :(

Got an English Cream Golden staying over for the week as his regular foster is out of town. This guy was rescued from Turkey. Sweet dude, but really, really wants to meet the rabbits in my yard!

Everyone-
Meet Hank.
Hank is a 5 year old Bassett beagle who has been with us for the last 4 years or so.
Rescued from Atlanta Pet Rescue, and moved back to Wisconsin with us.
Hank is not a big fan of the cold weather. But, that’s beside the point.
He’s a great dog and friendly toward everyone.
Great companion for wife, kids and me.
That is why we made the (financially) difficult decision to go ahead with back surgery on Monday after he somehow herniated a disc over the weekend.
He’s pretty stressed out right now. My wife and kids just brought him home from a very expensive week at the vet.
Please keep Hank in your thoughts over the coming weeks - as we are hoping for a speedy recovery.

Thanks, and lots of wags given to all you dog people.

Thank you.
He’s a good boy. Needs to be a couch potato for a while.

Our dachshund had back surgery about 8-9 years ago. He had some nerve damage, but is about 97-98%. For Dachshunds, back problems are really common. I wonder if the Basset in Hank contributed to his issue. Anyway, Sherlock wanted me to tell you to tell Hank, not to worry, the drugs are good and he'd be back up and at 'em in no time.

Two great looking dogs in these two posts.

NutmegCarrera 02-16-2018 03:07 PM

Thanks guys.
Our previous were full-on bassets (two of em). No problems ever.
This guy is going to have to relax for a while.
I have heard that doxies are pretty prone to the same thing.
Wouldn’t wish this on anyone!!!

NutmegCarrera 02-16-2018 03:08 PM

And Cliff -
Your guy looks like a hoot.
Always fun to watch dogs do what they love!!!

Hank is home and doing pretty well.
LOTS of drugs. Steroids, anxiety, pain, and a bunch of other stuff.
Going “outside” is fun. I read his discharge packet and saw “support his weight by holding at the base of the tail. This also stimulates and encourages defecation”. I was going through all this, and my daughter says “yeah - we got to watch that one a couple of this means already!” I said “oh”.
He is moving pretty well - but it’ll be a long 4-6 weeks.

Won’t let me pet her damnit.

Taking Winkipop in for a Rhinoscopy tomorrow.

She's had some nasal issues for the past 6 months as well as some periodic hacking.

Her vet and I have been trying a few things and yesterday made the decision to go forward with this procedure, which we hope will reveal what's causing her problems.

Going to take some chest xrays too while she's out.

Fingers, toes, and paws crossed for a treatable diagnosis!

I've wanted a shepherd breed for a long time... A friend sent this picture over and I want one!

Can any dog experts tell me if this is a Dutch Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, or another breed?
