We have just found another German Schnauzer — and she's a pistol. Our old one died this past summer and we can't seem to go for very long without one of these in our lives. They have such incredibly strong personalities.

Here's "Tuti" at 13 weeks. (She's named after her "dogmother", a very dear friend of ours who she vaguely resembles.)

well done..
she does have that I'm in charge look already..
Tuti landed in a gravy boat filled with love and care....

Really nice updates and new additions....woof!

So FWIW...here is our quick update...

Billabong had surgery yesterday to address "canine patellar luxation" (kneecap displacement) - back in the "cone of shame" for a few weeks!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351032884.jpg

This must have happened on or around the time that same leg was repaired for a CCL tear.

We're hoping this will be the resolution to her leg woes over the past year and she will once again be able to romp freely with Winkipop.

Amail 10-23-2012 04:43 PM

Winkipop and Billabong - them're some good dog names.

Baz 10-23-2012 06:26 PM

Thanks Amail!

Got an email from my vet with more details about what was done:

Her patella was dislocated to the inside of her leg and was imbedded in scar tissue. Although it took about an hour and fifteen minutes to correct, we feel that the procedure
went very well. Her patella luxation was corrected with 3 procedures:

1) A medial patella release
2) A trochlear groove resection
3) A tibial crest transposition

---------

In layman's terms I think this means they re-grooved the top of the femur where the kneecap sits. This also involved a reset (with pins) of the "tibial crest' which holds the kneecap in place.

All 3 girls are asleep right now...BB laying on the floor next to my chair...WP's chasing something in her dream as her front feet keep moving lol...and Matilda (the bird) is on one leg - eyes shut tight.

Not a creature is stirring.....not even a mouse.... :)

Thanks Mark but the credit goes to the folks who orchestrated these important educational tips for the responsible dog ownership and care.

It's ironic that I'm posting these on a thread whose viewers likely already know all of this info.

If it ends up helping one dog my time was well spent.

Please cross post folks....it really could make a difference! :)

Good point. I was talking with a customer today. He just got a Rotty from a shelter. Good for him. The dog is 110lbs about 3 years old. BUT... He told me today his daughter was in the pups face holding onto his collar. The dog growled and snapped at her but thank God he didn't bite the little girl. I told Steve to please talk to his daughter to NEVER get in a dogs face!!! Sometimes the owner needs the training. I think one of your hounds above say something to that affect!!
