Oops! You're right- I remember that now. I was thinking I didn't remember getting in the water to shoot that. I think you're original was lacking a bunch of contrast. The original is gone from the old thread.

Must have been a big day? Wouldn't have thought that the leg of the coffee table would make a good pillow. :)

Now an update from my friends in Oz....there are 3 survivors now of the Kelpie litter that was rescued including "Heidi" pictured below. They had a combination of Parvo and something else....very hard on such little pups.

Lucky was adopted on Saturday! This is our sweet boy meeting his new family for the first time. Lucky was saved from the Madison County (Marshall NC) Shelter in October and is really the perfect dog! He will be living in Raleigh and already has settled in so nicely with his family. A special thanks to Martha and Doc of Blue Crush Rescue for their help in evaluating, pulling and transport.

Harley, recently rescued from a shelter in Conway, SC, hangs with her mom.

There is nothing more precious than seeing a family with a dog, let alone a newly adopted dog. Angels each one of them. And you Mister!!!!

Sadly we also have this scenario.....inside view of a dog who has just been dumped at a shelter by his family on the day before Thanksgiving. Hug your dogs, pray for this guy and all the others out there, and be Thankful for the people in your lives who aren't despicable.

I love that dogs expression. He's just realized he's hit the jackpot.

That is just such a sad story. Hope that pup find a loving home.

Just back in from taking our golden for her evening walk. Just the two of us in the cold and dark but i wouldn't trade that time for all the tea in China.

I've been avoiding this thread. I am such a fool for dogs and cats. I knew I would get all weepy. I love my Maddie beyond all reason, and about half my charitable giving goes to local shelters. I'm so happy for all you who have a dog in your life. We are so lucky to have their love.

Lily is almost back to her old self again since her attack on Saturday. She met two barkless dogs named Katie & Pippa.

They were so sweet and apparently can't bark, howl or make much noise...I had no idea that breed existed.

From a Finnish newspaper: Wolfgang Grensens from Germany on a walk with his dogs and Wally (the sheep). Wally lost his mother and one of the dogs adopted Wally.

But just look at the stink-eye the Heeler to the right is giving Wally...lol....

Q: What was the inspiration behind Find a Cow NOW!?

A: My sister, the illustrator, Janet Stevens, rescued a cattle dog named Houdini several year ago. He has herded deer, cats, rugs, chairs, and even his tail. He, too, has never seen a cow.

Q: What makes this book special to you? What important message do you feel it brings to young readers?

A: It’s special because it stars a very funny, unique, real dog named Houdini who always wants to herd things. The book has several messages: sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to pursue your dreams; dreams are often found when you least expect it; there’s no place like home.

Q: What was your favorite book growing up?

A: A How and Why Book of poetry, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and fables. It had it all!

Q: What is your favorite memory from childhood?

A: Visiting my grandparents’ ranch in the heart of Texas and playing with my large number of first cousins.

Q: Did you have any pets? If so, which one was your favorite?

A: A big black Great Dane named Beauty. She lived to be fourteen years old—and was a gentle giant.

Q: What inspired you to write and when did you know you would become an author?

A: I loved to write (especially poetry) from the time I was old enough to write! As I grew older, I wrote songs, poems, and skits for friends, family, and school. I won a poetry contest in eighth grade and had my first poem published. Janet (Stevens)and I had always talked about it, but it didn't become a reality until an emergency situation arose in 1997. She was asked to write and illustrate a story for a Harcourt School publication and the deadline was rapidly approaching. She knew what she wanted to draw—she just was stuck on how to word it. I became her voice; and in that week of brainstorming, writing, and rewriting, we discovered that the collaboration was purr-r-r-fect. Her illustrations and my writing are a “fit” because we share the same sense of humor!

Q: If there is one thing you could tell your readers about life, what would you say?

A: Each day that you wake up (and hopefully you do), you have two choices: you can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood. choose the good mood, and your optimism will affect not only your life, but the lives of everyone you touch.

This "vicious" little girl was about to be put down at the shelter. She was picked up as a stray single momma, raising her surviving baby in a ditch, when she was finally trapped, her pup taken away and then taken to a shelter. She snapped and snarled at them, was moved around on a catch pole, even bit. But Brandy saw that she was simply afraid and just need to know things were ok and she could trust someone. So she took her home before they could put her down. Well, looks like Brandy was right! I can't wait to see where this goes! Just makes you wonder how many other "vicious" dogs are put down because people don't simply understand that they are afraid.

Hey Baz,

I finally got around to watching a locally made movie called 'Red Dog' (produced in 2011) last night. Entertaining movie, and ticks all the boxes - a story about a cattle dog and and characters of the outback.

It's loosely based upon a true story about an outback legendary dog http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Dog_(Pilbara) .

A sad ending but mostly a funny story. If you haven't already seen it, I'd highly recommend it.

Bazza, that video was so awesome to watch. What a good girl. Did you notice that she would SIT every time she wanted more treats? I did. To me that says she was once owned and trained. It saddens me to see and hear of so many awesome dogs that are just abandoned. Heck, I've got four dogs right now and will likely be adopting a fifth at some time in the not-too-distant future. All of my dogs are my children, as far as I'm concerned.
