I had one young Shih Tzu boy (Oscar, the darker one) that wasn't liked by the older males, so a breeder recommended a standard poodle. So Zora got added to the herd, and she's been awesome. Full of joy, not demanding of anything (except some occasional attention), and very sweet and gentle. Zora's 4 yrs old now and these little ones are 7 yrs old. They have some good fun together.

The wee baby jumped out of my wife’s car doing 30 and shattered his femur. He’s doped up right now. Surgery in anchorage tomorrow morning. In case you’re wondering estimates start at $4000.

Poor little guy...... with those ears, I would have figured there would have been more lift than drag, thus lifting him aloft.[emoji6]

Keep us updated and nothing it well wishes to a non eventful-routine surgery. Give him some ear scratches from all of us.

Two rods in his leg.
About thirty stapes holding him together.
rymadyl, gabapentin, trazadone and something else I’m forgetting.
Just under five thousand dollars.
Two months enforced bed rest. We’re sleeping in bags on the floor next to him to make sure he doesn’t get up. Going to have to buy a crate.

If the rods don’t hold the next step is amputation.

Angel shared lots of love with us over the last 12 years, She rescued us after a previous dog passed. We think she was probably 14-15yo. She wasn't feeling well yesterday and passed early this morning.

Angel looks like a sweetheart- sorry to hear she's moved on. Glad to hear she didn't suffer long. I have a 50 lb poodle that like the 15 lb dog beds. She can sit in them or lay down over the edges.

She rescued me following the passing of a previous pup due to the complication of being spayed.

We had Yuki for 2 years and took her to get spayed. She passed 3 days later. I think she was too active and started bleeding internally. Angel came into my life pretty shortly after that. Angel was a real sweetheart and loved everyone (as long as they weren't using lawn equipment. she hated weedeaters, lawn mowers, etc...).

Very sorry for your loss Steve.....Haven't heard of connection between being sprayed and passing.

Not really a connection. Being Spayed is a major operation. We were told to not let her jump or be very active for some time so she didn't tear her stitches. I think that she may have jumped up on our son's bed and torn her stitches.

Two days after our pup passed, my uncle passed.

This morning, we woke up and the remaining pup's nose was swollen on one side. I'm not sure if it was swollen first thing or if it was swollen after we came back inside after breakfast. We really can't deal with another hit. We gave him a small dose of benadryl in case it was some sort of bite. Tomorrow, we'll take him to the vet.

I think this is mostly good news. It wasn't a bug bite (that would have been the best news), but it is something that can be fixed. We're pretty sure that it's an abscessed tooth. I showed up at the vet this morning as soon as they opened with no appt. They put us in a room right away and the vet was able to see us right away. The vet that normally does their dental surgery had a cancellation today, so I left him there and they should be taking care of him today. It's unfortunate that he's going to be losing another tooth (we brush, but he's got horrible teeth which is a thing for dachshunds), but we're glad that it's something relatively benign and fixable (versus a tumor or cancer or something).

I'm taking the fact that the vet was able to see him right away (less of a wait than when we have an appt) and that there was a cancellation in surgery as a positive sign from God or the universe or whatever that he's going to get patched up and be with us for a while longer.

Good news!!!!!!!

We learned with Sir Henry that good dental is “everything” especially with regards to overall internal health of your pupper, and especially if they are a senior one.

We didn’t know the backstory on our little guy when we rescued him in 2014 from an animal shelter. He was an assumed 10y due to the date on his chip that was never activated[emoji849]. Anyway, his teeth were absolutely horrid and he always had a severe case of doggy IBS that would torch off at the slightest variation of food. Many trips to the vet, blood work, walks at 1:00AM just so he could poop “outside”, etc. I told the wifey that he was made just for her [emoji848][emoji1][emoji51]. Then I would run like hell.....
We ended up at the vet one day and for whatever reason we focused on his teeth. He too was nearing the toothless stage and didn’t have many to spare. Our vet who is a miracle worker wouldn’t touch his mouth due to delicate surgery required. I guess due to one of the canines had gotten so bad a small hole had developed into his sinuses. I took him to a vet in Grass Valley to another vet who specializes in dental work. He is one that our vet would take her own pups too. That’s all I needed, appointment made. He was a no nonsense type of vet who came in said “I am going to remove the tooth, create two flaps of skin to suture over the hole......and remove any tooth that is in bad shape. This whole event isn’t worth a darn if you don’t get rid of the other bad teeth, I’ll clean and remove tarter from everything else. Any questions.” What can you say after that? Other than, so I plan to pick him up this afternoon or is he staying the night?

We now have a restored knowledge of the importance of good dental. Just thinking of all the poison continuously be ingested by yur pupper and the damage it can have on his/her internals just isn’t worth it.

Keep us posted on their recovery. Ear rubs and belly scratches when they feel better.

Sherlock is out of surgery, he had several more teeth pulled. Poor fella, not many teeth left. Fortunately, we feed him soft food anyway. They said he's doing fine, and we should be able to pick him up in about 2 hours.

The wife showed me this story that just about broke my heart. I will admit that I would not of thought there was a danger. Any Vet on the forum that educate the rest of us so this doesn’t happen to any of us.
