^great pics, all. My new Heeler pup Sophie is doing well and learning every day. Been reading on the new methods on dog training, very enlightening. I've always raised dogs with discipline and treat rewards. Now I'm acting like the alpha wolf with much faster results. She eats after me and when I allow. She is ignored when barking for attention, just like the boss wolf does. No need for correction collars anymore. I'm learning they don't think like humans at all, they crave what's been lodged in their DNA for thousands of years.
Man, these Heelers are so smart! When Sophie pees where I want her to (the lawn) she gets big praise. She's figured out to squat for a fake pee outwitting me. At 10 weeks she fetches, dropping the ball at my feet, didn't think that would happen so early.

Thanks for the updates, Greg!

I don't think many realise how smart this breed really is...until they are owned by one.

I look forward to more observations as you move forward with your new co-pilot!

Keep up the great work!

So we were tortoisesitting last week (my daughter's 22-year old Leopard Tortoise, Dave). Dave loves to mix it up with the dogs  He does it constantly with her dogs. Whenever our Dante and Pete started playing, Dave would run over and get in the middle of it :D

That is hilarious!

CurtEgerer 03-04-2024 04:13 PM

I know! Pete was basically running and hiding from the tortoise by Day 2 :D

Steve Carlton 03-04-2024 04:27 PM

Pete looks like he's putting on weight.

CurtEgerer 03-05-2024 10:08 AM

^^^ He's at about 45 pounds. Vet still thinks he's about 9 months old. Should be at 70 by this age, so I don't see any way he's going to come close to the 97-148 indicated on the DNA test. New breed, Miniature Great Pyrenees?? :D

VINMAN 03-05-2024 10:31 AM

Give your fur babies an extra hug.

Spent 20 mins last night doing CPR on a family's pittie, at a house fire last night.

Heartbreaking. I'm still bummed out.:(

Maybe one day Sophie will get a sister to romp with. :)

Note Seahawk's pics. :p

We picked up a second when I saw a rescue that looked as forlorned as she did adorable. Winkipop was about 1 1/2 then and so was the new rescue, Billabong.

They took to each other in a New York minute!

Just a thought Greg......you never know what the future may bring......

I don't know if I could handle 2 Heelers. I don't know if I can handle one sometimes. She's like the energizer bunny wearing me Out! sure is fun though. She has Cooper my 8 year old mutt to bother for now. Coop is a great dog with a lot of patience but when she's a bit too much a correction growl is issued. She gets it

Cooper is the alpha.

You are the pack leader.

All is in order......

AS to being able to handle 2 Heelers.....I wondered about that too. Turned out to be a non-factor. I'd even go so far as to say it made things easier, somehow....;)

Steve Carlton 03-08-2024 10:47 AM

I'm sure her eyes light up when she sees your stuff to chew on!

Friday they came to do the final inspection on the roof installed last October. I told the wife, but failed to mention it to the dogs. Roof inspection requires you get on the roof. Wife wakes up with both big dogs on top of her, protecting her with their bodies, barking and snarling at the ceiling. Eventually, she gets out from under them and goes to talk to roof guy. She did not find it as amusing as I did
