The DOG thread
Double post....
|
This is good for a few minutes entertainment: Dog Scanner app. Yes, scan a dog with your phone and it tells the breed or mixed breed. Our purebred Schnauzer was not much of a test. But my daughter scanned her mixed breed and results were shockingly close to a DNA test she had done.

Curt, I think my wife is going to love that. We have a striped pony of undetermined parentage that she has wanted to do the 23 and me for dogs on him.

BTW - anybody know of a robot vacuum that works for more than 8 months on Golden Retriever hair?
2 deebots died; Samsung roller brush picks up hair and melts the frickin' housing * that's with cleaning it every time it runs too |
None! Get a Sebo with the dog kit.
|
Or brush outside with treats?
The kitty leaves behind a slug trail of hair. Hacking up hairballs. What a mess. Freaking me out. Changing foods regularly and watching for changes. A little brushing made quite the difference. |
I brush him outside every day. But I am talking about a Golden Retriever - lotsa fur! And he's 105 lbs. - lotsa, lotsa fur.

Worked in our case but all depends how the puppers reacts to noise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Owen Walter was feeling a little urpy this morning - vomited three times and was very lethargic. It didn't stop him from going on our morning walk out to feed the chickens, but something wasn't right. He has had pancreatitis, so we weren't talking any chances - off to the vet on Saturday morning.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1566663754.jpg The check-in desk has this electric candle and sign. I always get a little weepy when I see it, thinking of what it signifies for people and their pets http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1566663754.jpg Owen is OK, no bad pancreas enzymes so it's probably some piece of crap he's eaten. Maybe too many cherry tomatoes and acorns or something. As I was paying the bill I saw the candle and I guess I got little weepy again. The receptionist asked if I was OK, is Owen OK?. I told her yes everything's fine, I always cry when I get out the Amex card. |
It is National Dog Day....
|
DogTV
So DirecTV is giving us a free preview of the DogTV Channel.
I tune in with great anticipation thinking "wow, finally a channel just for dog lovers!!!". I was wrong. This is actually a TV Channel FOR DOGS TO WATCH. A little disappointed, but after a few minutes, I did get the urge to run out to the back yard and pee on a tree... |
Every day is Dog Day

To follow up with a story I shared where a couple lost their Aussie after spending a hot day in a local body of water. I believe it was back east.
Well, I guess the cause has reared its ugly head again, but locally. http://kcra.com/article/lake-tahoe-toxic-algae-dogs-pet-safety-california/28838095?src=app |
Got this for Ricky. I call it the "Roswell Simulator". I now have dead aliens all over the house.
I forgot how much fun a new puppy is! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567022023.jpg |
Sunday night our senior rescue beagle, Jack, woke up screaming bloody murder and limping around like his left front leg was broken. Didn't know what was going on. Suddenly he was fine. Cramp? Pinched nerve? Nightmare? He got back in bed and went to sleep.
30 minutes later the same thing happened. Now we noticed a head tilt and circling. Stroke?! We ran him down to the local after-hours pet ER. He was back to normal but they did blood work. No problem. She starts pointing at things on an X-ray of his body cavity, saying words like "tumors," "cancer" and "euthanize." What?! We left him in their care for overnight monitoring, fluids and further x-rays until they closed at 7am and the only local internal medicine specialist/oncologist opened up (in the same building) so he could do an ultrasound. If we slept at all that night, we were having nightmares about it. The next morning the specialist walks in and was like, "nah, he doesn't have cancer, he's got a slipped disc in his neck." What?! He also discovered (by chance, via the x-ray) that he has Pneumothorax (small hole or leak in a lung lobe.) He isn't showing any symptoms so we're just going to keep an eye on him for now. He may require surgery down the road if it gets worse. Here is the kicker. We were supposed to leave Friday morning to go to Colorado for a week (Cayenne Turbo and an Airstream, realizing a dream.) Turns out, if we had taken Jack up Pikes Peak like we planned, his lung would've collapsed!! Providence? I'm almost grateful for the slipped disc now, which we are managing with medication. We completely cancelled our trip. Pretty bummed about our fall vacation falling to pieces but our (four-legged) kids are more important.
