The DOG thread
Hi Baz,
I’ve been off-line for a bit and just checked-in. Jamie and I are so very sorry for your loss. Our hearts sank when we read about Bilibong’s prognosis. Everyone here clearly understands you family’s position on your four legged family members. Stay strong my brother, we are all here for you. Trev n Jamie (Bugs) |

We've missed you but also realize there's more to life than hanging out on a talk forum. Hope all is well with you and yours. I have a bunch of vids of the girls as well as pics, of course. Here's a short vid I took a while back of Winkipop on the couch and Billabong on patrol. Note the little nose bonk at the end. In true Heeler fashion, she loved pushing her nose into things.....:p <iframe width="725" height="544" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uYsWG8pzzog" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> Be well my friend and hope to see more of you when time allows......SmileWavy |

Thanks Baz, 2019 kicked us in the balls from September on and kept rolling right into this chit sandwich we all call 2020. Had my hands full with the wife and my father in unrelated medical issues. Just pulled away from pretty much everything I was remotely involved with. Started emerging from my self induced isolation and started poking around forums I was familiar with. Was blindsided by reading about the passing of your pupper. Watching your little video did cause me to get a wee bit misty eyed. I agree, her and Sir Henry are bouncing around right now enjoying each others company. Please give Wink and belly rub from us. Cheers Bugs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

All you can do is to keep going - take it one day at a time. Sometimes a half day at a time even. Belly rubs given and Winks says woof! Hang in there and keep me posted if I can do anything for you......SmileWavy |
First dog passed after 17 years. Cried 2 days. Two months later got another dog. That one passed at 14 and got another puppy the next day.

There’s no better medicine for the pain of loss than a new puppy.

Friday I made maybe the hardest decision of my life and said goodbye to one of the best friends I have ever had. Jack was a rescue on the edge of being euthanized when my wife and I found him in 2007. We were looking for a younger dog, Jack was thought to be four by the SPCA and didn't really fit the bill. After many unfruitful visits looking for a puppy or very young dog, I finally asked about this guy whose poster had been up every time I had been there for quite awhile. When a dog has a viewing appointment, they won't show that dog to anyone else as they do not want to disappoint, ie have a meet only to find out the last person that looked decided to adopt. When I asked if I could see Jack, they were falling over themselves to get him out to see me, the first dog I had been able to meet for a view as no one else was interested. Nobody wanted an unknown 4 year old rescue. I told my wife "if we see him, you know we are adopting him", as we knew we were likely his last chance as he was going kennel crazy and was not long for this world without an adoption. Well we met him, and of course took him home. Later estimates put his age, as it turns out, closer to the two year mark than four years, news we were happy to hear. It took some time for us to all get along, but in not too long at all Jack was an essential part of our little family. He was my wife's dog, you only had to see them together for a few minutes to know that. He spent the next 13 years being the best possible companion I could ask for, and a fabulous friend. In the last few years he had slowed down a lot, but he still loved sitting on his deck admiring his domain, king of his little world and woe to the squirrel that tested that! I have never cried so much in my life as I have the last few days, and knowing I will be doing it again for my other dog soon makes it just that much harder. But I will never regret a second of the time I had with that fantastic dog, no matter how hard it is when it comes to an end. Give all of your guys a scratch tonight, remind them how important they are to us all. |
Mr. Gord,
Jack was very lucky to have found you in his time of need when he needed a family the most. We are very sorry to hear about the passing of Jack. He looks like a very smart guy and handsome too. It’s hard to find comfort in words in hopes to fill the vacant void in your hearts. Folks that are not pet people can’t understand why we as owners get upset at the loss of our pups. It’s always comforting to know that no matter what type of day we had, our fur babies always were there to greet us and accept us for who we are without judgement. Our four legged family have a knack for calling our hearts when needed. I liked your wife’s remark about seeing him, she sounds like her and my Mrs are on the same thought process. We haven’t found another pup after we lost Sir Henry yet and we frequently visit shelters and such, waiting for that calling in our hearts. Stay strong and Jack was a very lucky guy to have been found by you. Bugs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Thank you bugstrider, I remember feeling much the same when you posted that Sir Henry had passed. If I did not say so then, I echo your sentiment in return.

I'm so sorry for your loss, gordner. There's not much I can add that Bugs didn't already say in his eloquent post.
Winkipop will get several additional hugs today in honor of your boy, Jack. Peace to you and yours...... |
Sorry for your lose Gorder, so tough, but most hard decisions are. I’ll give Korey some extra belly rubs for you tonight.
