Just got sad news from the parents at the ranch [emoji22], seems to be a common thread this week. Shelby, one of their 9 Aussies who is 13 1/2 has been putting up a tremendous fight with a neuromuscular disorder causing all loss of rear motor function causing damage to the fronts of his back feet and rubbing fur an skin raw. Today his front legs gave out and he can no longer move. They are having to make that most difficult of choices we pet owners/lovers have to make when they are family. It unbelievably hard to put this into words as so many of you have also had to experience. It will be a little quieter at the Reigning Dust Ranch tonight.

So sad.
I am certain Mr Shelby had a very good life. |
RIP Mr. Shelby and I hope you get to run and play with your buddies on the other side.
|
Sheesh...that sucks. So sorry to hear. Sleep well Shelby. Lot's of friends waiting on the other side.
Funny, since we lost our Mazy a few weeks ago (English Mastiff), it's been quieter around the house and the wound is starting to heal a bit (it does for all of us in time). Wife is working on me to get another one, or possibly a St. Bernard. We'll see. Our other two seem content and happy getting more attention. But man, we sure do miss that mushy blob of hugs and slobber. Bottom line, the wound becomes less "fresh", but never fully heals. We lost our girl long before her time and it'll always be hard to rationalize. Stay strong fellas. There's lots of pups out there that need good homes. It's good there's people like us that do our part to help them. |
Very sad, our thoughts are with Shelby.....

Sorry to hear Bugs.

Pepper out in the BC interior. Happy dog. Swimming everyday, lots of off leash time, trail walks and countless squirrels to chase. Sorry to hear about Shelby, Bugstrider. |
Thank guys for all the kind words on Shelby. He was nothing but love and affection and it was a very sad day indeed. He put up a very courageous battle.
He will be missed. Had to find something happy to watch http://youtu.be/Uuvaos1WHTk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Been taking Zora to work whenever possible. Everybody loves her. She's very sweet and gentile.

Just had to collect urine from my dog. 5:00am, headlamp, sanitized collection jar and no time for nitrile glove. It was warmer than I imagined. Dog was staring at me with that, " can i get some personal space?" Look. Mission accomplished ! Had to store it in the fridge since appt was at 10:30. Fun times! Call it love.

This Pit Bull rescue thing is breaking my heart. I want to keep them all.
Here is Ranger. 9 weeks old, 14 lbs - the most beautiful coat imaginable, and he is a total sweetheart. He's here for some socialization and then to another foster to await adoption. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1441934857.jpg This is Charlie, the brown pup in post 2515. She is 9 pounds now and like a little tank. We have to keep her with older dogs because she is so bossy with pups her own size. Sorry about the bad pic. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1441934960.jpg |
The DOG thread
Hey everyone,
It's been a year since the wife saw a posting on the Truckee Animal Shelter web site. I got the call at work that she was playing hooky from her job, "A mental health day" and was taking a ride up to "see" this guy. My first thoughts were that he looked like a small grey wolf with a "tude". She tells me he is a mini schnauzer but I'm sorry, I just didn't see it in the posting. I've always been a herding dog guy and she is the Schnauzer expert. So I say ok dear, let me know what happens. Several hours later I get another call informing me that this little guy was on his way home with her and he has been with us ever since. I just wanted to share some photos of this past year. The shelter listing: Not too sure on his story before us. He was found wandering the streets of Truckee and his pads were really torn up as if he has been on the lamb for a long time. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...e00ee58a8d.jpg This little guy looked so defeated when we got him. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...6256839f1d.jpg He was so shut down that we got him a collar with a tag stating "deaf" with all of our contact info. He wouldn't react to sounds, loud noises, anything. Not even an ear twitch. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...70c5d94508.jpg Slowly we started to see responses as he work out of his mental state. He took to his crate and new name really quickly so we think his new name had to have been close to Henry. Especially for a guy 10 +\- years old. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...e7b7f0076b.jpg Has established his morning routine of a walk to get the day started. He isn't the typical yippy little dog Schnauzers are known to be. He is very mellow on will occasionally bark at a deer if it is in the yard. One of those "Hey! Your in my yard" kinda barks. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...ca157a7bed.jpg Makes the honey smile when he greets her and gives her a little hello whimper and his famous Elvis smile.. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...172753515a.jpg We believe his pervious owner was an elderly gentleman, every time he see an older guy with all grey or white hair he gets excited and happy. This has to be one of my favorite pictures. Just two guys chillaxing, by the way, it's dad. The first time we took Henry over to the ranch, he promptly went inside, into the living room and right into his lap and laid down. Those two instantly hit it off. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...7562507a36.jpg Porsche helper http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...139154af12.jpg The "your taking entirely too long, I gotta poop" look http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...a805be7c7b.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...a05eed6af0.jpg As you can all tell, life is pretty rough here at the ol homestead. Cheers everyone and happy one year anniversary Henry Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Awesome post, Bugs......doesn't get any better than that!
Congrats and Happy Anniversary to you and yours and please give Sir Henry a belly rub from the girls. :) PS: Patrick - thanks for the puppy pics....and there's nothing 'bad' about that last pic....it's ALL good, bro! |
Thanks a lot Baz! You bet I'll pass your kind words on and give Henry some belly rubs.
Please give the girls some ear scratches from all of us. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...0c2a9a1991.jpg |

This makes me laugh every time I look at it. But then again, I'm not at the receiving end wearing the bite-suit.
