Not a joke, prone to abuse/misuse perhaps, but I don't see how that diminishes the effectiveness for the people who are genuinely benefitting from it.

The guys that say I don't drink, I don't smoke. Uh, why are you even responding. I will say after retiring I decided to become a connisuer of both wine and weed. No more drug testing after 20 years of whizzing in cups. The mj today is not your mommies mex swag. I would venture to guess the good stuff is ALL homegrown. High tech, very mood specific stuff. You old guys that say oh it put me to sleep, oh it made me stupid, whatever there is a strain for your wish out there.

I gave up my wine snobbery 8 months ago and along with eating basically 50/50 fruit and vegetables have lost 70lbs. Don't snore at night, no heartburn no matter how spicy the food I eat i'm trying to kick the beer snobbery phase next too. And after almost 3 years of staying mind altered I'm weaning off the Ganga too.

What I'm saying is that as it is weed is not sold at pharmacies. --I had a "Medical" marijuana dispensary move in two doors down from our business. While the owners were great business neighbors, the customers... it really motivated me to find a new business location and fast. Anyway, where the true medical need exists, the drug should be available over the counter, at a that place which controls controlled substances - a Pharmacy. These Speak-easy like "Medical" marijuana dispensaries are just a joke from a medical need standpoint.

Not sure I would agree with all of the above, but Hmmmm wonder just who it is?

Believe that I have met him...

After I retire will prolly enjoy a joint from time to time. Not now, my job keeps me from that but truthfully cannot see much difference between pot and Jack Daniels... my current drink.

The BEST thing about pot being illegal is it restricts the public use.

MJ smells HORRIBLE! Even worse than cigarettes, and those are bad stinky. It is rare that I get a whiff of the stink weed. I get the occasional whiff of cigarettes even though they are banned most places.

If someone wants to enjoy a glass of wine, beer or spirits I don't have to participate in any way. If they light up a toke I am suddenly a hostage to their nasty smelling habit. No thanks. Toke up all you want at home. Keep the doors and windows closed and enjoy the stink. I don't want to participate.

The real issue

Of course in the perfect world use would be in moderation.

HOWEVER - the real issue is addiction. Alcoholism is one of the worst diseases that humanity currently faces. Within my own small circle of family and friends it has killed as many people as cancer.

At present one of my 43 year old best friends lies in a brain dead coma due to a combination of alcohol abuse and pain pills. His father is a raging alcoholic...it gets passed down.

My mother in law died of liver failure caused by alcohol and tylenol.
My father in law and his 2nd wife are raging alcoholics as well.

I should add that we don't live in a trailer park. All of these folks are middle class upstanding members of society

OK, there are chronic weed smokers, but they are very few and far between.

The stats are just too clear. A very significant percentage of the population are genetically predisposed to alcohol abuse. The fact that we as a society let these people self destruct is very sad

Your beef is with the federal govt.

Cigars are the worst to me for stench.

Actually both have a place in my medical life. When I get idiopathic muscle spasms and I start flopping like a fish, two shots of whisky help calm the spasms. When I get vertigo, nausea or spastic paraparesis MJ helps alleviate the symptoms.

The legalization of MJ would help me live better. But here in NJ getting med MJ is nearly impossible for anyone not suffering from cancer or MS. I've tried.

Come to Arizona.... its legal here if you have medical issues. Does require a Doctors approval but if you are really in pain, its available.

I don't own a pickup truck, nor can I play bass (or any instrument at all, for that matter, but I'm a good listener...).

I will admit to prior use, and yes, I did inhale. You guys would be hard pressed to come up with something I didn't try. Alas, that was many, many moons ago - a career, a family, a house, responsibilities. About all that remains of those days is an appreciation for good scotch, good wine, and good beer. I've tried the odd cigar every now and then, but the price is just too high for me - the nausea, headache, and just general "blah" feeling the next day.

O.k., enough about me. I firmly believe all drugs should be legal and unregulated at any level. Our gubmint, our neighbors, our society have absolutely no business telling us what we can and cannot consume, regardless of its affect on us. They can all educate and advise (and I'm all for that), but "regulate" should be off the table completely.

I, too, have lost friends and family to the two "legal" and "socially acceptable" drugs. It still just irks me that we speak in terms of "drugs and alcohol", while nicotine does not even enter the conversation. There is no distinction - alcohol and nicotine remain the two most addictive, destructive drugs known to man. That much is an established fact, yet they remain legal under our current laws, and acceptable under our current societal norms. And their legions of users continue to look down their collective noses at folks whose tastes in "poison" differ from their own, arguing the ill affects of the others as reason not to legalize them. Hypocrites. Extremely ignorant, haughty, and conceited hypocrites. It's long past time to put them in their place and let others enjoy whatever guilty pleasures they choose. It's no one else's damn business.

I have had more than one heroin addict tell me that kicking the smack was easy compared to cigarettes.

I sure wouldn't want to be on the road with someone that just had a case of beer in the last half hour or dropping some magic mushrooms crusing down the highway at 85mph.

I prefer Wine. The worst problem is combining alcohol with prescription drugs. Pot and smell?..... Vaporizer.....no smell, healthier. I hate cigarettes, my wife smokes occasionally( she says)....

Alcohol will destroy my life in short order, already proven. Vaporizer & edibles, not so much.
