Anyone Know This Person?

I probably should post over in the 911 Forum, but I haven't owned a 911 since 2004 (sold, then a 964 then a 356), but, onward.

I was doing a sight survey for an upcoming flight test period on Delamar Dry Lake in Nevada. See it here: Delamar Dry Lake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My company will be doing flight test of our Strike Fighter UAV, called Wingman.

Part of any good site survey is driving to the site, poking around, hitting the local towns finding out available facilities, emergency capabilities, etc.

While we will stage out at Delamar with an RV and all our test stuff, most of the test team will stay in motels, either in Alamo or Caliente. In Alamo, last Friday, I pull into one of two small local hotels and spot this:

Beautiful car. Later, Driving to Caliente on the Great Basin Hwy, I pass these folks:

The Great Basin Highway is a great run from Alamo to Caliente.

Surely not a veteran Pelican, what with all those K&N stickers on there.

K&N! Now with even LESS filtration and more noise. Remember kiddies, oil those filters til they are BRIGHT red.

Chances are he does not have a K&N filter in the car, slim to none chance but..

The overabundance of K&N stickers might be for contingencies...

Sponsors points etc..

Like Tire Rack required windshield banners in on the cars in BMWCCA racing a few years ago..

And they gave away tires to winning cars...

Sport a Grassroots sticker on your car.... you may get a pic in the magazine...

K&N might have some sort of sponsorship with whatever group the car is involved with...

You passed with a double yellow line? What state plates were on the 911?

Are those 6" front fuchs? Nobody runs those on the track if they can help it (rules).

This town you mention is in the middle of nowhere. Is there a public road race / go-fast event in NV I don't know about?

Oh my...yes a very serious one. Silver State Classic Challenge Inc.

The record for the 90 mile race average...wait for it..........................217.5570 MPH.

Lots of different classes.

Those old cars were going about 25mph...I was behind them on a curvy stretch for about 10 miles and decided to live dangerously

I don't remember the plates, odd. And the car was in the Silver State Challenge, which was a few days before I was in Alamo/Caliente. Looks like a great race. The SC looked great, btw.

Joe, I should be in Phoenix in a few months. Look forward to seeing you guys again!

You were passing the chase car?

A Model-A?

What were the other cars ahead?

Model-T's?

In addition to the last older car, they had a modern chase car and a truck with an enclosed trailer.

I have no idea what kind of cars they were...I have no fluency in that era of automobiles, none. They were all in apparently excellent shape, cosmetically and mechanically.
