If I said this thread was better than the "fair is fair..what about a legs/butt thread?" I'd be lying...But damn it's close. I'm blown away how many Pelican's have so many cool spoons.

Rare little Colt added to the herd................

Just got this. It is a Model 1877 Thunderer (1887) that was rebuilt by gunsmith George Matthews of west coast fame into a neat little .22 in 1953. He built up this piece for personal use when trekking out into the desert near his California home. The mods include: relined barrel and cylinder chambers, new firing pin and recoil shield, frame re-casehardened and the barrel, cylinder and grip frame rust blued. Grips are ivory. He apparently did not like the Thunderer grip shape so he rebuilt this one to look like a Single Action. He must not have carried it very much as the finish is in almost perfect condition. This piece made the 1969 edition of the Guns and Ammo Annual as a featured example of custom gunsmithing! Some pictures:

Can't wait to take this one to the range and make it go "pop" again!

Picked up a '76 vintage 10/22 to use as a host for a build (heavy barrel, trigger work, new stock, etc). Here is the walnut stock, stripped but not sanded...

Selling it (as well as the METAL butt plate and barrel band - late '76 Ruger changed to the PLASTIC butt plate) to fund the new stock...

Okay, I admit I'm a baby in the spoon world but I have to ask. What exactly is that?

fred cook 05-31-2014 09:55 AM

It is a 22 rimfire clone of the WWII German STG44 assault rifle.

I want the real STG44, but I hear the ammo is hard to come by. Oh, and the $30k I'd need to buy the gun.

I'd settle for an MP-40 too.

varmint 06-01-2014 12:00 PM

maybe if they sell enough in .22 they'll work up something in a larger calibre.

are the insides of that thing the same as an original STG44 or has it been simplified/modernized?

fred cook 06-01-2014 04:42 PM

The original used a roller locking action (grandpa to HK91). This one in 22 rf is a simple blowback action.

Bill Douglas 06-03-2014 02:34 PM

Ned Kelly's gun.
