I have a couple Colt officer frame .45's.
Standard mags fit.
Someone may make a 'sleeve' that makes the expended part of the magazine the same dimension as the frame but I haven't looked into it.

Auctions

U Boyz are hilarious... Carol worked for Little John Gangle for over 20 years before striking out on her own.

A friend of mine estate was auctioned at two of Carols auctions last year (May & November), All the Swiss Tgt rifles, tgt rifles & pistols, the better military stuff, Colt & Smiths, along with the custom knives were his. Featured in that auction were several Steve Dowd Hughes Custom rifles including the 1877 Sharps that my friend spent 30K to have built.

Yawowzer...I bid on it to 10K and backed off apparently one of my friend's, friend bought the rifle for about 14K out ze door. Absolutely a beautiful rifle.

Anyway I was able to get a coupla of pieces from his estate for prices that would make him turn over in his grave. But he would be happy to see that I got them because he had left me in in Trust to receive something from him (it was a short list)? As an example I was able to purchase a Homer Dangler Custom Flintlock rifle for just over 2K...and the Ed Brown Custom Marine Corp Tactical rifle. :D That one ought to make the juice run down your legs

So I know Carol and her crew pretty well....and BTW that guy on the phone bidding is me!

Little John sold his auction business to Cowen's Auctions. John is done, retired.

New pony added to the herd..........

Just added this one to the "herd". A Colt Frontier Scout w/nickel finish and both .22LR and .22 Mag cylinders! Although not sold as such, it appears to be unfired. Born in 1966. Pics:

Originally a 40-63, it looks like my old shooting buddy and longtime hunting partner's dad had it rebored to .45 caliber and rechambered to .45-70 sometime in the '40's or '50's. When his dad passed away, I "inherited" this rifle when I helped catalog and value his somewhat eclectic collection.

It was in very rough shape when I took possession, with the action frozen and the barrel looking like the exhaust manifold on an old pickup truck. One of the "conditions" of assuming ownership was to fix it up and take it hunting once again. I eventually wound up killing a non-typical 5x7 mulie with it. The load was the Lyman #457193 400 grain flat nose over a duplex load of 7.0 grains of Reloder 7 under 53 grains of Goex FFg. Great shooting load in this rifle.

So that is why they had a joint auction.I talked to John a bit in January at the Beinfield. I've known John since 1980. I wonder why he called it quits and what is he going to be doing?

My guess would be CA regulations and the fact that the competition for good merchandise is really getting fierce.

Carol Watson must be taking a lot of steam from John. A lot of John's long time customers have died and or their estates must have already been sold off. The ability to build in depth collections as one used to see even 15 years ago is gone. It would take mega dinero to build one today. Another one bites the dust...So sorry to see it happen.

BTW I am getting tired too.

Tabs, the auction is on again in Wellington. If there is anything you want appraised (for free of course) let me know.

No, she's not mine...I wish. One day maybe. They're a little out of my reach.

Where are you going to get cartridges for a Volcanic pistol? I guess that you could get creative and roll your own. The Volcanic cartridge consists of a hollowed out lead ball containing powder and a priming mechanism. When fired there is no empty case to eject! Everything goes out the barrel!

I know that the officers frame uses it's own mag when you want a flush fit and that's what it will be carried with but if I want to use any of my other mags can I ?

Bonus of 6 interweb points for pics!

I carry a Rock Island Arms 1911 Commander with the 'bullnose' slide, 4 1/2 in. barrel, uses regular 8 rd. mags (bought a couple off the net, not a single failure in about 600 rds.)

Yep, it's called "Rocket ball" ammo. The powder burns out that back like a bottle rocket. It was a very slow round and not very effective at impact.

I have two friends, "Sensei" Jeff and Richard that assure me they can make the bullets if I find a Volcanic I can afford. No sense in owning it if you can't fire it at least once.

This one makes me drool…

Added a compensator to it. The wife thinks it helps her, it makes the comander a full size but convertable back to it's regular length.

I think that whole gun is compensating for something Rick. ;)
