1870's era Belgian made pinfire. Probably not marked in any way, it's hard to figure out just who made what. Commonly made in 9mm or 11mm pinfire. Weird little cartridges, there was a pin sticking out at 90 degrees that the hammer struck, kind of a self contained firing pin. You can see the notches in the back of the cylinder where the pins stick out.

Dang it, where's Tabby when we need him? RIP old friend...
Definitely Belgian. It gets really murky beyond that. Really poor records, almost no markings, commonly shared features, all contribute to a great deal of confusion and speculation. Lots of the old British and continental gun trade relied upon fairly anonymous makers supplying somewhat more renown distributors. Often the same gun was made by a number of small gun makers and sold by the same distributor, who did not distinguish between who made their guns. Then there were larger gun makers who sold through a number of distributors who added their names to these guns they did not make. It gets really confusing, and often untraceable. Guns are identified by very small nuances as to who actually made them, or who actually distributed them. Terry Wieland is a fantastic resource on this kind of thing. He writes for Rifle, Handloader, The Single Shot Exchange, and probably other magazines. If you are truly interested in finding out about guns like these, it's worth looking him up.

A project in .300 win mag I've been making from scratch for a while now. Externally and internally it is about as close to an original as realistically possible. Been a hassle to make, but it beats shelling out the 100-150k one goes for; if you even can find one.
Still have a bit of wood shaping to do around the grip before I can start sealing and finishing, along with the tedious job of stippling. The steel bits are soon to be sent out to receive a black nitride finish.

One year since I started shooting NRL22 and my rig has come a long way. (I shared a pic when I got started)
These were from Saturday after installing a new scope and getting in a little practice before Sunday's match. ![]() ![]()

Not looking forward to finishing the wood work, but it's getting close to being the only thing I have left to do to wrap this project up.

Yes, beautiful rifles, in a "form follows function" kind of way. Very purposeful. I can certainly appreciate their utility. I see lots of guys shooting similar rifles at my club, everything from the very popular .22 bench rest competitions to the equally popular precision rifle competitions.
As you guys know by now, my tastes run a little bit differently. When someone says "beautiful rifle", I think of nice wood, deep shiny blueing, and that sort of thing. Here is my taste in a "pretty" bolt gun: ![]() ![]() Model 98 Mauser action in .375 H&H Magnum. English walnut stock, shadow line cheek piece, ebony forend tip, color case hardened grip cap. Traditional express sights with the fixed leaf sighted for 100 yards and two more folding leaves for 200 and 300 yards. This has proven to be an exceptional hunting rifle for me, the one I reach for when I know I'll be wading into the thick stuff, going after the big stuff. I guess in that way, its form follows its function as well. What a wonderful spectrum of rifles on display here. I know you guys are having as much fun with yours as I am with mine. Good stuff.

I went to an indoor range with my son last Friday. Next to us were 4 college age dudes.
At one point I overheard one of them ask my son what he carries daily. Son's reply was the weapons we brought 'are my dad's'. I think we had about 6 pistols with us. A bit later same kid asks the range safety if the safety thought he fired good enough to 'get a license to buy a gun'. Safety tells him we don't need license here in the USA. Get to the parking lot and turns out the kids were sporting an Ontario license plate on their car. I guess they just wanted the full Texas experience of shooting a gun.

Canadians can buy long guns in the US with a hunting license. I don't think they can buy handguns unless they have a green card.
