Tomorrow's penultimate stage of the Giro:

"It’s 10.1 kilometers long at a 12 percent average, with a maximum pitch of 22 percent. If that sounds bad, consider this: the road disappears into the forest and gains 3,000 feet in 6 kilometers. The final 3.5 kilometers tilt toward the sun at 14 percent, roughly, with ramps of 23 percent."

I don't believe I have ever ridden a road bike on a ramp of 20%, beyond a driveway or something .

I'm not sure how great an idea this is either  I like drillium, put it has to be somewhat practical.

You roadies and yo' fancy pansy resin bikes. Going for something different and a build for $75. Paid $7 for the entire bike but its getting a transformation. Getting some fatso 26" slicks, low end Shimano w/ under bar thumb shifters. Laughable, other small things, bike related coming in from China (via fleabay).... $2 to $4 including postage! $5 in the stem, $10 for the bars. Will retain the crash bar on the rear derailleur and hitch for the kiddie wagon...

Electronic sequential shifting comes to bikes.

Lennard Zinn's first ride review of Shimano XTR Di2 - VeloNews.com

I'm thinking ABS next.

I'm waiting for the Google riderless version. Then I can send my bike off for a ride and sit home drinking beer

That said, I really like the idea of sequential shifting. I think we'll eventually see some sort of replacement of the crude (but simple) chain and gear system entirely.

That 196 is tempting because it's pretty much my size (51-52). But having just finished up the Gitane, no way I can justify another ground-up build for a while

More drillium. It hurts to even look at this :D

Curt.... You could buy it and hang on to it for a bit. It would make awesome garage art. Just saying. ;)
