Trek Farley 7.
Finished studding the tires yesterday.
Should be a fun winter activity and keep me in some sort of shape other than round!

Edit: Spot the border collie? Didn't realize that she was in the photo...

Love that front chainring

billybek 09-09-2018 04:40 PM

Lol...
Should be able to climb with that!
26 x 42
I changed the chainring down from a 28.

This is what fast mortals look like going down the glacier - I watched some qualifying races. You have to be very skilled and fast and also lucky to "get" to be able to race the on the glacier.

It really puts into perspective how fast the guys at the sharp end of the skill set really are....

I have been slowly digesting this race all week.

Races from the front- staying in front of traffic.
Races from the back- clearing through traffic.
What I love is the sheer love they have at the top. The guy in my video yells "f3$l yeah".
The guy in your video laughs as he slides down the mountain next to his bike.

Either way- pure joy!

Here is another video I found... watch the commentary. A little annoying, yet AMAzING!!!This is a good breakdown starting around 2:00.

Watch it for about 6 minutes and try to pick the lines you'd take- as well as listen to what the rider says.. Interesting.

Brought back some memories. I used to pour over, and borrow those late 70s early 80s imported magazines from our cub. I can't read French, but could go over and over those pictures looking at their form, set up and riding position and of course, their equipment. This was all I did in Biology class. I no longer follow the Tour but when I see a last name like Van Impe or Peeters, I just know that's one of those old rider's kid.

Were you riding during the late 70s or early 80s?

:D:D Yeah, I probably bought my first serious road race bike in 73. Bought a brand new P13 Paramount in 1975. Very difficult to follow what was going on in Europe in those days!! Me (blue jersey) racing across the border in Canada in 1977 or so.

Edit: I wish I still had that Seiko Speed Timer I was wearing!

Wow, you been around for some time. Was the racing any bigger in Canada? Where was that, Ontario? During that time, I think it was bigger in Quebec due to the amount of French there. Is that a Bell Biker you have on?

You got that right about getting European info on racing. We stumbled upon the LA Downtown main library (damn book reports) imported Le Gazzetta dello Sport but only to arrive about 3 weeks after the published date. It was better then nothing. This was 1983. Velonews was our life line to racing, both local and European info. During the Tour, the LA times would published who was in the lead and the time. If I remember correctly, this was around 86 when I noticed it. Do you remember Intentional Cycle Sport, a British mag. Somehow our huge library had a subscription again, a month or two late sometimes but were were just too happy to look at all the archives going back ten years. We learned about the Spring Classics and riders other then Merckx or Hinault but LeMond was really our hero. You remember Roger Young? I met him a couple years ago. His girl friend lives a couple houses from a friend of mine (He sells air cool parts). He just started riding and noticed Roger unloading a bunch of bikes and started chit chating and mention the name to me.

I met Roger Young. What a Dick. Too good for all of us in the group. I've met tons of other pro's, including Eddy Merckx (my belgium coach and him were childhood friends) I'm friends with quite a few and all of them have been great guys. Not Roger, he's IMPORTANT. I guess Connie divorced him.
