@Bryon- cool frame. Love the seatstay gusset.
@171- That merlin reminds me almost EXACTLY of a friend's old and sold merlin. Looks like his old bike. Same white fizik, same cranks, same stem, etc. His was a 54/56 custom frame with a 54 seat tube and 56 toptube length. He sold it on ebay after riding it about 40-50k at least miles, and I always wondered how many more pedal strokes that titanium could go. You didn't pick that up off ebay did you? ;) |
Ha, 54 seat tube is bit on big size. I like smaller frames, because they are quicker. I am a 52/3 C to C. That's stem will soon be changed to a Cinelli. This one with the new DA head set. Puttin' it back they way it was.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1616630449.jpg

Byron, I’ve never seen that frame, what year is it? I remember drooling over the Nomura frame in the early 80’s but this looks even better
|
Is this a good bike? Worth anything? Bought it used from a bike shop when my kids were little. Guys told me its a vintage freestyle bike. Something about the crank and the wheels are what restoration BMX guys want. He rode it mo more then 10 times and moved on to a geared bike.

Hey, I have a set of those Cosmics on my Ridley. My kid is riding them now. I saw a Motta tri-colored frame way back in the mid 80s hanging off the ceiling off one of the large pro shops in LA. I couldn't stop drooling it was so pretty. I wanted one since. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1616646452.JPG |
Not mine... That photo is from a Facebook group page.
This made its way to my house recently. (I may have posted this in my Italian Tools thread) An Army buddy of mine knew I was into older bikes so he gave it to me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1616665561.jpg |

Thanks for the Basso love. You're right about the rear triangle. And I'd forgotten how low the BB is on these 80's bikes. And those 21 tires! Thin like blades! |
I remember the first Basso I saw was way back at a race. We were done with the Jr's race so we stuck around to see real racing, the senior I, II's. There was a crash, few guys pull off and there's this Basso Gap leaning up against the fence. It was the typical Gios blue with white lettering. That was the first time I even seen one been in love with them ever since.
Like this, simple but they are very elegant. https://grundtner.com/collections/featured/products/wonderful-basso-gap |
BTW, forget 21 mm tires. I went to 23, then over to 25 at 95 psi. 25 barely fits.

Been having trouble posting pics lately.
Say, you want to pull a pic of a tire off the net and post it here. Often I google the name of tire and it pops up from Google image. But often it doesn't post or blocks it. What do you do to get it to work?
|
I save the pics and then upload them from my own hard drive.

I had those 21's left over from something, I thought it would be fun to see what they were like. I've got 'em inflated to about 100 back, 90ish front.
That blue gap is outstanding. New Old Stock! Needs a NOS SUPER Record gruppo! |
