Yes crimped tubes... IMO Gimmicky especially on an aluminium frame.

Just got back from an 80 km ride (11.50 AM). The weather is getting better so I wore my lighter clothing.

I lusted after one of those for some time back then. They had several big full page ads in the back of Winning or was it Pro Cycling (I think, don't remember?) that sold the Ti, steel, as well as Alum Colnagos as well as C40s. Couldn't afford a Ti bike, so Alum was the next logical choice. I ended up with a Torelli alum frame. It was stiff and fun.

I see nothing wrong with creased tubs if it made them stronger.

From memory the creased/crimped tubes were for added stiffness & compliance in certain load directions.

Yes it was. They creased all their tubes, Ti, steel, alum and even carbon. My C40 is creased. Im not sure if made any real difference but compared to my Look Kg171, the yellow Team Once Jalabert special, it is stiffer off the saddle. I have to say, my old Look lugged carbon frame was a tiny bit soft and flexy for the big sprinters (I was 150 lbs, so no big), but for those long drawn out all days training rides, it was my go to bike, very comfortable and quick.

I have a 40th Anniversary model, but may sell it as some are paying crazy money for certain model Big Rippers, and mine is one of those bikes.
I'm returning it to stock.

Not to worry, I have replaced it with this.

Since the accident, my balance is still not working correctly, so my wheelies aren't what they once were, plus the wheelie crowd is not the crowd you want to be associated with.
I say that as a 1st generation BMXer, who started riding in the early 70s, mimicking Evel Knievel, then found a BMX track in the mid 70s, racing straight through to the mid to late 90s, as knee and injuries , as well as COPD (and at that time I never smoked ANYTHING) made it harder and harder to complete on the national level.
Even then, I still never got out of it and kept most of my BMX stuff from over the years , and boy, I never thought that it would increase in value the way it has.

Speaking of big bucks and missed opportunities, I remember when swingbikes could be got for cheap. Seemed like everyone that I knew that bought one used it for a while, decided it was kind of dumb, and then abandoned it to the garage. 20 bucks (or a bag of pot) would have been top price. Now the clean ones are getting 4 figures. Oh well.

Do you know any company that make a good, relatively light Octalink Italian Bottom Bracket? I looked but only found shimano 105. I have a couple of Dura Ace ones I took off my old bikes but are English thread. Very light at under 200 grams. Its for the Yellow Colnago. My youngest kids has finally grown tall enough to ride it. He and I will be sporting our old Colnagos (me in the C40) to those special rides and piss off old men in spandex / purest.

I ran into Roger Young (not so famous in Europe or down your way), American track star, Olympian, of the late 70s. He was in all of the few cycling books in our library. I was walking out of an old friend's house (he sells old air cool parts for a living). I see this old dude loading an old steel road bike in the back of his car so naturally I had to walk by and say hello and check out his old bike. He said he was Roger Young, My eyes lid up and has to ask, the Roger Young, track rider? He smiled and nodded and said with a very surprise look, "You know me?" AFter chatting for a couple minutes, he invited me for a ride later in the week. On the ride, there were lots of questions from me about those early days of racing internationally for Americans. He thought it was funny that when he was riding Worlds and Olympic track races, I wasn't able to ride a bike straight yet.

I've never heard of a non Shimano Octalink. Great news about your young lad. My son is not interested in doing anything physical
