Bikeshare bike in NYC. I ride them instead of taking taxis in Manhattan.

FYI, I'm looking for a single vintage Campag Super Record rear hub, high flange, 36 hole, English thread. Ideally a mid 1970s w/ the straight QR lever. In case anyone has one laying around . . .

What is the thing in front of the handlebars? I thought it was some sort solar/electric/hybrid deal.

I'll check the parts bins for a hub ...

Just the basket. Cleverly designed to hold a purse or briefcase, but not a kid or a load of trash or a puddle of rainwater.

They are actually sophisticated bikes. Drum brakes, three speed internal gear hubs, all cables internal, generator hub, automatic blinking front and rear lights, GPS beacon, virtually flat proof tires, bombproof wheels. They survive and look pretty good; any normal bike would be non functioning in weeks.

I predict 16K or a little less for the 10.6 pounder. About the same cost as a nice SC.

Well, then in that case, if you can't afford an SC then you should get a 10 pound racing bike!

It becomes the obvious choice!

(Seriously, though, there is a lot of proprietary equipment on that machine to get it that light. Brakes, bars...)

Still looking for a steel frame wall hanger. Purpose is to convert to a single speed lite weight for beach bike path speeding. Prefer 700c wheels.

Cash via PayPal. Nothing gold plated......dusty, classic, oldies, preferred.....kinda like me.

It really has become absurd. There is not $15K-$20K in these uber-bikes. Not even close. How can they get this much money for them? Because people are willing to pay that amount. Retrogrouch lays it out nicely:

That Bike Costs How Much?!

I always laugh my ass off when people with these kind of bikes show up at a century ride and complain after 70 miles how tires they are and are crawling up a slight incline. why not buy a sports bike instead of a hardcore racing bike for that?

A friend gave me a set of new Mavic carbon Cosmics as a gift just the other day because I saved his bacon with some construction stuff. I am afraid to ride it on the street because I don't deserve a fast set of wheel because I am just not that fast. Tricked wheels or not, I still get drop on the hammerhead ride.

Joe Bob-size? I have a 56 Marioni with Oria tubing, funky red white blue fade, not perfect, frame and fork with horizontal dropouts...

+1. Just need a comfy bike, not the lightest wheels but strong. Still a fan of tubulars but lately appreciating the Tufo tubulars / clinchers. Fast and comfy rubber for clinchers.

Talk of long rides, I'm almost finished with this 1956 retro / preservation fun bike and will surely do a few century club rides. In two weeks I'll be on a very hilly - roller coaster 60 miler with it.

I've been riding it yet have to complete a few details and dialing-in. Comically, it climbs with ease and surprised me how incredible it rolls and coast along. Beautiful machined Austrian Styria hub's and vintage 28" Michelins on early Weinmann aluminum rims. The rims have no hook bead and are single wall. A test of confidence if running a low PSI and at higher speed descents. Running at 80psi seems just about right.

Haven't figured the gear inches but its a mountain goat plus tall gearing for high speed. The trick: 3 speed IGH plus 3 speed plunger rear derailleur plus 2 speed chainring.
