Just an added and impt fact about Black Widders. They often nest or hide under the front edge of a terlet seat. Careful of your junk boyz.

I have to say that in a twisted sense, this thread has been hilarious!

on one hand we have dangerous tiny things that may or may not exist in parts of the country that may or may not be the west/south/who knows and on the other hand we have "the kids" wanting "go time" over what? Was this all scripted? Did Jack plant the seeds here to help with scripting ideas for a new sitcom?

If so, Bravo I say- well played Jack!

I love this BBS! Way more fun than any of the rest of the interwebs!

hmmmm, thats my piss zone! I haven't stood to take a whizz at home in 10 years! Saves on lifting and dropping the seat as well as taking advantage of a dump as it may present it self!

Widders typically stay fairly close to the ground no more than about 3 feet up.
That's cause they like to eat crawly things like crickets and crawly things tend to be on the gound . BUT NOT ALWAYS.
I've seen em at eye level on o'ccasion, ya just can trust the little buggers.

Arid-zona has them big ole trarantuas which give me the willies. And scorpions, don't like them either. I'll mess with widders before I'd mess with any of their creepy stuff. At least widders behave and stay in the webs, scorpions doan do that.
Don't even get me started on all them creepies they have down in the gulf states, which I believe are in the southern hemisphere.
Do we have any of them trap door spiders in this country? Sneaky bastages.

Arid-zona is east of here in case anyone wondered. So is texas.
In fact the whole damn country is back east when looking at it from this perspective.

I'm taking my 3.2 off the engine stand and lowering down onto a floor jack. I notice a spider crawling on top of the muffler. I hit it with some bug spray then fish it out with a screwdriver and put it on my workbench. Sure enough, when I put on the bench I see a perfectly shaped red hourglass on the belly. This is the first Black Widow I have seen since I have lived in Chicago (almost 20 years), and it had to be crawling on my engine. Needless to say, I would rather see a mouse.

I hope she was single, no kids!

Roger
After I read your post the first thing I did was look to see where you where, I'm shocked. I've been aware that Black Widows are present in all 48 states and lower Canada, but I've personally never seen one. The Brown Recluse isn't too far away either.

Oh by the way, she may have been single but she was someones kid.

This is kidrock taking a "timeout" and hitting the reset button.

I want to apologize to this site and its contributors because of my poor judgment. I responded in a wildly inappropriate manner as a response to what I believed to be a personal attack which lacked respect and tact, and seemed to escalate to a point that the responder was intent on having the last word. Definitely a breach of protocol on my part.

I hope the members of this site will accept my sincerest apologies, and allow me to continue to be a respectful participant.

And to those who weren't baited by the hot mess and continued to focus on the actual post, you have my respect and thanks.

Now, let's talk about Black Widows!!!

kidrock out.

You are still wrong.

Just because it is pretty far South does not mean Texas is not a Western State When people refer to the "Wild West" they are thinking about Texas, most of the time.

Pretentious comment is going to get that sort of response regardless of where it is made or to whom.

Do a little spider eradication a few times a year here. You want to kil the bad ones and leave the good ones alone as much as you can. In Texas, we had geckos and birds that kept the bug population down a bit.

Bingo.... For what importance it has, he's totally correct. In my view it's SouthWest but definitely not South. The South is/was really East of the Mississippi River...

Except that I am not.......

Let's remember that Dodge City is in Kansas and that was once called the "West" too. You know Wyatt Earp, the Clantons, and the OK Corral. Heck, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee used to be considered the "West". As the US expanded west (Manifest destiny), the definition of "west" changed. Texas and Oklahoma used to be the "West" too. But that changed as well. Texas is culturally and geographically part of the South. Texas was part of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Saying that Texas is in the South and not the West is a pretentious comment? How? The subject is certainly open to debate but I can't see how it is pretentious.

Texas is just Baja Oklahoma.

California is a couple thousand miles EAST of Hawaii so it must not be the west either. Alaska makes California look to be back east as well.

Alaska and Hawaii are anomalies. They are not part of the continental United States.

More on Texas:

H-Net Reviews

A quote from the review:

"One theme that permeates the entire book is the identification of Texas as a southern rather than a western state. From the earliest Anglo migrants of the Old South, who implanted an agricultural, slave-holding economy and held political control of the state, to the secession crisis and alignment with the Confederacy, Texas retained its strong southern roots. Its western past, Campbell asserts, was short-lived (1865-1885) and represented only a minority of Texans. By the close of the frontier (1890), Texas had more in common with southern cotton farmers than western ranchers and cattlemen."
