$30k RWD Sports Car - 993 or NSX

If you had $30k to spend on an occasional use RWD sports car what would you choose and why?

I was just looking for a pretty picture. The 993 would be a NA Carrera and possibly a Targa. NSX would be an early model with manual steering.

1991 Acura NSX Long-Term Road Test

Good read on the NSX as a used car, thought I think they incorrectly characterized it as expensive to own. They paid too much to buy it, didn't adequately inspect the car, made some repairs for far more than they should have, then sold it for too little to an Edmunds staffer (probably not a conicidence).

Same people that paid out the nose fora mid-80's Carrera with a salvage title.

YMMV.

$30K would buy a nice 2007 Cayman. Brilliant car for the $$.

I've read that and I completely agree on all points.

I like the NSX but don't know if you can really get a good one for that price, anyway, I would rather buy and drive the Porsche.

Driving an NSX is like driving a fast Honda.

Driving a 993 is pure joy.

I agree. I have driven a few, and while they are cool.cars , nothing about it made me want to run out and buy one.

I had the chance to buy a '91 NSX for a little under $13K, but passed.

But mostly because (1) I already have too many cars, (2) it needed a clutch and that looked like a real pain, (3) it was black, and I'll never own another black car again in my life.

But between a 993 and an NSX, both nice and both $30K, I'd take the NSX for sure.

(But I'd rather have a $30K longhood 911 than either!)

No honda's for me! 993 all the way! I think 30k might be a little light for a nice 993 though. Mid to low 20s could get you a really nice c5 Z06, alot of bang for the buck.

If I fit, Honda. 993 has more interior room. Sad but I'm not getting any smaller.

The NSX looks very dated with the hidden headlights and the 90s supercar styling. You can say what you want about the 993, but the 911 shape, especially with the old style roof and hood is timeless. I also think the NSX is a bit anemic in many aspects - skinny tires, power, I can't help but think it generally looks like a toned down version of a hot car (think MR2 or Fiero).

If I'd get a 90s hidden headlight mid-engine car, it would have to be a Ferrari or Lambo. Not the same price class, but at least you'd get the real deal.
