Latest wisdom on jacks?

My recent move, I left behind my old jack. It was a heavy sucker, over 10 years old, bought at SAM's club at the time and started to malfunction. I figured I'll sell it at the garage sale (recovered over 20% of the original purchase price!) and get a nice new one when I arrive.

My first trip was to Costco - but they do not carry jacks all the time. So nothing there. I'd expect them to carry Chinese made stuff, but at least their return policy is superior to any other place.

What are my options? I would like to get something that can get under the 993 but also lift an SUV. Where to buy? I would really like avoid paying $500 but it may have to happen to get one made in the democratic world?

Is Al out of the question? Does it have to be steel? The Al jobs sure are nice to drive around the garage quickly.

Let me know what you have, jack-snobs!

One thing I look for in a jack is how slowly it can be released. I have an jack I bought in the early 90's that can let a car down slowly enough to make a glacier impatient. I'd like to find a new one with better width and lower. I have to drive the M3 up onto blocks before I can get this jack under it.

I have an Al jack, and while it's nice to schlep around the garage, I only trust it for light little quickie jobs.

don't get one with too high of a capacity, unless you want to be pumping forever to lift car. 3 ton will suffice.
