I remember in the early 1970s pulling into a gas station and an attendant would fill it up, check the tire pressure, check the oil, wash the windshield and ask about my family. All for 25 cents per gallon. Gas wars got it to 18 cents. With inflation that 25 cents is about what gas cost right now. I have to fill it myself and check the components myself.

I remember my dad filling up our new '65 Beetle convertible for $2 at the local station, here in NJ. The good old days, indeed.

Vermont used to have very low gas taxes. In 1999, we would pass gas stations selling gas for $0.899.
When I was in San Diego, in Fall 2003 or Spring 2004 the gas spiked to around $2.35 at the Cheapo Arco stations. Moving to Texas in 2004, the gas was around $1.40. At $1.40 today , even only counting inflation to 2%, this is about 21-22% cheaper!

at 1.40, you are paying less than half of what it costs me, in Canada. Land of the oil oversupply.

G'day!

Now that we can afford to buy gas again...........should we splurge a little and get premium?
For my Silverado truck, for example.

Now that gas is cheap, our Governor wants to raise the gas tax $0.03 per gallon to help pay for our roads. We already have the 4th highest gas tax in the nation, why not shoot for #2.

The provincial take is about 24% of the price of fuel. In the Vancouver area, that jumps to about 36% plus the federal governments grab which totals out to about 49% of the cost of each liter of fuel. Then let us not forget the tax on tax policy of the GST and tack on another 5% on the total! So I think it is fair to blame the government rather than those greedy oil companies. (and Alberta and Albertans! )
