Tech, it's 'cause you live in the "car Mecca"...I rarely take my 911 out without someone (or several folks) commenting on it. Heck, I don't even give newer ones a second look, but mine sure gets attention

Without a doubt. I see a Fisker at least once a week, and more Teslas than I can count. 458s, 599s, every flavor of Lambo, and the occasional Veyron... so, yeah, not comparable.

If I had a dollar for every Mercedes SLR McLaren I've seen running around here, I could fly to Greensboro and buy you a furrin beer.

I don't like fur in my beer, but I'd still take you up on a free one!
Of course then I'd buy you a local brew that's been properly skinned ![]() |

Retired, finally
|
Last Saturday evening, GF and I trailered my then dead '84 911 (complete with numbers) back home from Carolina Motorsports Park and we stopped at a Wendy's to get some salads. A couple even older than us gimped up and we held the door for them. The old geezer asks me incredulously, "You're not racing that car, are you? That's a hundred thousand dollar car!!".
I laughed and said, no, I wasn't racing it, but I was driving it pretty fast, right up until the point where the ***** quit running. I didn't have the heart to tell him that at most, it was a $20k car.

For the last 10 years I don't think I have ever gone a week without someone making a comment on my El Camino. I get comments on the 911 but I don't drive it that often. It is not insured as a daily driver.
I was getting gas after our local regional autocross on Saturday and a the guy next to me asked about the 911. He figured I was just out for a weekend drive. I told him I was returning from the track and had been on the track. He was amazed anyone would risk a super expensive car like that. He was driving a new F-350 extended cab that likely cost three times what my 911 is worth.
