I agree re: the Big Red but lots of the old time BBQ joints in the Hill Country sell a lot of it with their BBQ....

any good French wine made with Syrah and/or Grenache (old Cornas, CdP, etc.) - try it when you run out of dark beer and you'll be convinced

Both you Matts, Dave, Doug et al....grab yer guns and circle the wagons boyz...these heathen foreigners from Canada and California are besmirching my beloved Q with EVIL wine! Next thing ya know they'll be bad mouthing red BBQ slaw too! I keed...we talk a lot a lot of trash, but I'm with Kevin on this one...I'll eat any style of Q (pork, brisket, or even Peter's octopus) anytime, anywhere, and be coming back for more....just PLEASE don't make me drink wine with it....I gotta draw the line somewhere!

Something I've NEVER heard in my entire life: "Hold my wine and watch this...."

There are two distinct styles here in NC (both Q and slaw), and SC is different too....like Kevin, I always sample various regional styles whenever I can and have never been disappointed...it's ALL good!!!

Dang, when I used to go to the Lexington festival it was a MUCH smaller affair 30-40K tops....I saw where they now draw 160K+ (ten times the size of the town)...too big for this ol' boy

Next thing you know those contemptible wine merchants will be infiltrating Bassmasters events.

Big on fishing, big on wine...

I would drink wine with bbq if there wasn't beer to be had!

My next project on the BGE should be a pork shoulder...

You need no excuse to drink wine..... I like a Chardonnay with good BBQ'd pork. Dark beers with grilled beef and lagers or IPA's with BBQ'd chicken. Whatever floats your boat!!! (red wine with pasta.....any pasta).....I am thirsty now....but I think its a rum n coke kinda night tonight.......with Indian food!!!

I only drink pinot noirs at bbqs. In fact that's all I drink other times as well. Other... than today which was a beach day. I thought drinking wine in the sun at the beach would be a recipe for a headache.

I'm thinking it would go down good. I'm pretty sure that in the old South, they would have imbibed anything they could get their hands on, since many of the parties in those days lasted for days.

That'd have probably been moonshine . I've been talking trash about wine, but NC has actually become quite a "wine producing state"....in the heart of moonshine country, tobacco fields have been replaced with vineyards and wineries....all good stuff! In my youth (down east), we had "pig pickins" that's where you start the whole hog process the night before when planning the feast for late the next afternoon. By the time the pig was ready for the masses, most of the cooks that had been up all night were "ruint" after 15 hours . Didn't matter....the journey was the prize.

I am with Mike on this one. I drink what I want. I was really teed off recently(this is nothing new) when some friends took us to a restaurant where each dish was paired with a specific wine. Now my wife and I prefer red wines. Well the first dish was paired with a white wine. Well I said I would prefer a red wine. The response was the next dish comes with a red wine.......

I'm resisting the urge to fire up the smoker. Granted it won't be done by supper time, and I don't want to drink all day. But I want some BBQ.

$5 bet says I'll cave, and with in a hour, I'll be scoping out dead mesquite trees around the hood.
