Stool experts: Need toilet recommendations

There are many versions or Drake toilets. I believe all Drake models are ADA toilets. That means the seat height are taller then standard. Someone taller folks likes the height, but a standard is what most people prefer unless you are 6'8". They all use very similar flushing design and patented by Total about 15 maybe 20 years ago. They won some type of award for it. I think the patent has expired a while back so everyone's copied it but the cheap knockoffs trapways aren't glazed. Little dirt will make the fill valve whistle. If you leave it alone it will go away but the little grit will wear the little rubber parts away. it will leak as it fills. PITA. Bleed the lines before final hook up does the trick.

I have no stock in Toto, but we have installed a bunch over the years in many baths we built. If the designers or owner spec out something other then Toto or other brands where we feel it will cause flushing troubles, we just have them sign a waver or have someone else other us do the installation. When the damn thing doesn't flush they always call and complain. PITA.

That's my one complaint with the new toilet we got for our condo. It, like many of the new toilets, are ADA compliant. The seat height is something like 1.5"-2" higher than the toilet it replaced. My wife is only 5'3", so she doesn't like her feet dangling in the air while doing her business.

Guess I should look at the Toto Drake. It's a two piece unfortunately but is about $105 cheaper than the AS champion 4. Even less for a round bowl model. I do have to buy 4 of them.

American Standard Cadet 3 works pretty well and has a good flush rating. Under $200 at Home Depot. Easy DIY job.

Check your wax seal and make sure the flange matches up with the base of the toilet. They have an offset flange as well as a regular flange. If they don't match up, instant clog because only half of the opening is being used. Pull the toilet and measure the distance from the wall to the flange. Get the toilet that matches that. This explains it a little bit better:

Also, they make a reusable "wax" ring made out of foam. Prevents future blowouts from excess plunging. That can get messy.

Just as a side note, I am surprised that no one has thought of a "Clapper crapper." Stand up and clap, and away goes the ****.

The Toto Drake with Sanigloss I bought on Amazon.com was NOT and ADA height model. It has a lower more standard height.

The Toto Site has many, many different toilets with part numbers, so I studied that first then found what I wanted on Amazon.com.

Jim, we can fix that by building you a "Real" throne by elevating just that very spot around the toilet.

Anyone have one of those Japanese toilets that washes you and blows you dry, etc? I'm kind of curious how well they work.

That is an option for the Toto units. I have never experienced it myself, but I have been led to understand that this is a standard staple in Japanese homes. I would expect it to be quite nice.

I have install them for a Japanese client. Having an electrical outlet near by is a requirement. Most bathroom in America do not have an outlets there. He has them in all three of his newly remodeled bathroom now. Out of curiosity, I have thought about using it, but it would "NOT" be fair to the owner using such personal thing. Our toilets are taped shut during construction. No one uses it, period.

The control pad can be mounted on the side of the seat or a cordless remotely mounted unit that be detached from the wall. They have heated seat, and rod that slides out to spray warm (adj temp) water up into your dirty butt then retracts when finish, then warm air dry with air deodorizer of course, and finish. I still can't figure out the cleaning procedure? Do we not wipe, spray first, dry and wipe, or wipe, spray, dry? Maybe we don't use toilet paper at all? I am so afraid to find out. the Japanese gives a whole new meaning to bidet. I am shock that the tree huggers have not found out about this yet? Save toilet paper so it better for the environment?

I have two of the Brondell versions, initially installed after my spinal cord injury. Still love them even now that I have much of my arm function back. Skidmarks reduced to zero. PM me if you need operating instructions.

I just ordered four Toto Drake Elongated bowl ADA height (tall) toilets and four Toto softclose seats. Amazon.com was the best deal I could find on them, $50 cheaper per toilet than Home Depot. Ebay was off the charts high. Found a couple other fly-by-night places that were cheaper but nobody beats Amazon's customer service in my experience if there is a problem.
