I like.

Depends on a few things a) did they do the necessary repairs when the clutch was replaced and b) what is that bra hiding?

Looks like a decent deal.

That's my car with a tacky bra and 18" aftermarket wheels. After owning an aerokit car I highly prefer it over the standard body, but they need to lose the poser GT3 badge ASAP. I think the price should be a bit less due to the miles, maybe $15k?

Do we need to start an "Affordable 997 Thread" as well? This is the first I've seen sub-$30k

I've seen a few dipping below $30k, that's why people asking $30k+ for regular 996s are nuts. I'm hoping to drive my 996 for a few years then upgrade to a 997, I think they are the sweet spot for modern 911s. More attractive styling (my opinion), better performance, not too cushy, not too full of high tech garbage, still possible to DIY. Of course if the 996 GT3 suddenly drops in value, all bets are off.

Agreed. Now, once the 997.2's get to be affordable... I'll be all over that. Or an aero package car. I'm about equal on 997.1's and 996 C4S's, but an aero 997 is so incredibly superior aesthetically to any previous water cooled car that it isn't even a fair comparison.

Unfortnately, everyone else agrees and they are priced accordingly.

onewhippedpuppy 01-29-2014 08:29 AM

The interesting paradox will be 996 C4S vs plain Jane 997. That's a tough one, and they are priced pretty similar.

JavaBrewer 01-29-2014 08:39 AM

As much as I like the updated 997 body I prefer the 996 interior. Of course things have a way of growing on me - case in point the 996 I am currently driving. I'm also that oddball who prefers the cleaner lines of the non-aero 996. I can deal with the nose and side skirts but would lose the big wing. In fact I am looking to pull the fuse on the motorized wing on my 996. IMO it totally ruins the lines of the car.

You might be the first person I've heard say this. What do you like about the 996 interior? That's normally Gripe Number 1A amongst people.

And personally, I'd leave the wing intact. It never stays up while at rest, and at least to my butt, I could really feel its effects on the highway.

onewhippedpuppy 01-29-2014 09:59 AM

I have zero issues with the 996 interior, I find it to be functional, comfortable, and high quality. Superior in every way to the archaic interior in the 993 and prior. The standard interior isn't fancy but wears like iron, the full leather is much more lux but also requires more care to keep nice. I prefer the styling of the 997 interior simply because it is more an evolution of 911 interior design, vs a near total departure like the 996.

David, I would leave the wing alone as it contributes to high speed stability. It's not like you see it when deployed at highway speeds anyway.

If everything goes to plan, this will be exactly the choice I will be facing. And as much as I hate to admit it, the deciding factor will probably come down to such vain factors like color and which wheels it comes with.

You show me a red or blue 997 with the Carrera S II wheels on it and I'll come sprinting with money.

JavaBrewer 01-29-2014 10:05 AM

The steering wheel, integrated dash (looks like any sedan), and the increased integration of technical gizmos, dials and switches. You know - all the stuff that normal people want :)

I understand the function of the motorized wing but dislike the look and the fact that it's basically saying I (at some point) exceeded 75 mph. I have not tried the footwell switch to lower it manually - does that lower it and keep it lowered for the remainder of the drive even if speed is >75 mph? Not sure. I have not felt a difference with it up or down - but then I rarely exceed 80 on the highway anyway. Track would be different but I don't have plans to do that.

Must be my seating position but I do see the top 1" or so of the wing through the bottom of the rear window. Definitely know when it's up.

Easy fix, just bump your mirror up a bit ;)

I was able to do the same, but it's not like you notice how it "disturbs the lines of the car" at 75 MPH.

Funny story, my wife was following me when I had my Boxster. On the highway I got a panicked phone call that there was something wrong with my trunk. "It looks like it's open, or something is about to fall off." After a little diagnosis I realized that she was seeing the rear spoiler deploy.

Are you sure that's not a typo? Clown show car creation sounds more like it. So sad.

Love the wheels. Love the massive negative camber. Love the rubber band tires. Oh, and the girls! Do the chicas come with the car, too? Or should I invest in some girl-be-gone spray when I'm rollin' in dat whip?

Skip the girl... at that price does the house come with the car?

Might have to start that new thread, I'm sure this one would be in that sub $30k range with a little negotiation: 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera (997)

1990C4S 02-02-2014 01:51 PM

I have no issue with people posting Boxsters and 997's here....
