2001 Porsche 911 Carrera *STUNNING!* 6-SPEED and ONLY 107k Miles!

2001 manual coupe, 107k miles, $16500.

Really like the burgandy aerokit one, though it has zero options inside and the rear Carrera badge is placed too high (respray?). A few contrasting interior bits would go a long way towards breaking up the sea of gray.

That red car looks baked, I suspect it is worse in person.

The blue C4 also looks baked inside and out, and has some rather unfortunate "upgrades".

As for a turbo at $33k, if it weren't a tip I'd be REALLY tempted.

That TT does look interesting but the two-tone isn't my cup of tea - looks like a cop car...

I figuer I will find 'the' car - it will be a 996TT and I shall drive her like I stole her until I tire and then psuh some more cuz dats jus how Iz roll!

I have not tried the footwell switch to lower it manually - does that lower it and keep it lowered for the remainder of the drive even if speed is >75 mph? Not sure. I have not felt a difference with it up or down - but then I rarely exceed 80 on the highway anyway. Track would be different but I don't have plans to do that.

Pop the cover off the fuse panel that the switch is on in the footwell. There is a fuse specifically for the rear wing I think. If you pull it while the wing is down... it will stay down at all speeds (no power).

If you use the switch to put it up(turn car on, hold switch ~ 5 seconds until it is up) and then pull the fuse, it will stay up all the time.

I'm far from a 996 expert but I think I read someplace that the badge was higher on the early cars and moved down later in the model run.

Somebody find me a 996 GT2 for < $30k!

I'm passing on buying a friend's 2001 996 cab. 104k miles, complete rebuilt engine by a known Porsche shop... new cylinder liners, clutch, all the stuff that should be done etc... hard top, later exhaust. Silver exterior, grey interior. Runs great, excellent paint. Interior is good except for peeling material on the driver's door top piece. Ken has a nice little collection of cars, this one hurts his back and so he doesn't drive it, so he's selling it. He's asking $18, might take less. Private message me and I'll hook the two of you up. I have no vested interest in this car, just passing along a decent deal. Sorry, no pictures. Jon

Well this morning I experienced spoiler failure (the first failure since owning the car). Started up in the garage and the spoiler deployed and I got the spoiler error indicator on the dash. Drove to work and when I hit 75 I got the warning message again. Red spoiler error indicator is permanently lighted. Got to work and shut down. Spoiler remained deployed. Will have to track this down over the weekend. If I can get it back down I'm pulling the fuse for sure.

This weekend I'm also installing new pads & rotors. Eager to wrench a bit on this ;)

Have you driven it with the hard top on?

Just a bump of this thread to keep my dreams of one day owning another Porsche alive...

How reliable is the 4WD on the 996?

In a perfect world of course 4WD is an advantage (Audi Quarto) but what about the added weight and complexity?

How does a 2WD 996 compare to a 4WD?

1990C4S 02-06-2014 05:41 PM

On a 996 you can remove the front drive shafts and have a (heavier) RWD car. On a 964 you can't do that.

I think...

Correct. Lots of guys seem to do that with the TT to make a budget GT2, and the C4S to make the C2S that Porsche didn't make with the 996. I think some just pull the drive shafts, while others pull the differentials and everything.

I am pretty sure you can convert it to 2wd as well. The trans only has a different nose. But I am not an expert ...

If you mean a 964 I am pretty sure you cannot easily make a C4 rwd (not without swapping the tranny).

$6500 Boxster

Man. That's so tempting ...

1998 Porsche Boxster 2.5

Got mine running last week and took her on her maiden voyage today! Nothing like the feeling of leaving the house under her own power for the first time! Still have lots to do but at least I can drive it now!!

I have been saying for over a year that the 996TT is the best Porsche HP:dollar spent ratio out there. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up an X51 996TT for $23k two years ago. Oh, it was SO nice....

M.D. Holloway 02-09-2014 09:07 PM

I agree! I agree!! I agree!!! and I shall have her...if only for a brief instant on a shoul of time, and drive her I shall and she will purr beneath me and we shall be one if only for a moment and that moment shall pass but the memories, oh the memories shall be with until the end of time...
