I don't think there is such a mechanism. What is behind this behavior is simply demand and supply. A "refusal" to pay more has to do with the fact that you have a glut of 996 to chose from on the market. Compared to air cool cars - there are now more want ads than f/s ads on many of the models.

Thanks for the tip Matt, I checked them out but unfortunately they don't have a full front bumper like I want.

In the spirit of things here's another 911 1999 Porsche 911 Cabriolet in a cool color, close to brg

Its a great color combo but owner said "everything has been replaced, engine, drivetrain, interior, wheels, etc etc. He bought it from his good friend who had a box of reciepts. But, yea right, his wife misplaced the box and he cant find it. I've heard this over the years. But it does look like a nice car, I'd like to have it.

Yup, simple supply and demand. Porsche built more 996s than any prior 911, and they are relatively new so there are lots of nice cars to choose from. In 20 years when many of them have been crashed or parted out you might see a slight upswing like the 944s, 914s, and 928s seem to be experiencing, but I don't ever see them as collector cars. The only exception to that statement would be the rare cars like the GT3 and GT2, which don't seem to be getting any cheaper.

No receipts = didn't happen.

I probably could on Saturday.. Going to be on the road all week.

If you call about it let him know you have someone in town that could come check it out. ;)

Because if I show up saying I've got a friend out of town interested, I can bet he'll blow me off as some young punk tire kicker. ;)

Not if you show up in an electric green Bug.

Seriously, if you then non-offendingly show him you know more about a 996tt than he does, he'll wipe that smug off his face soon enough.

I had the same questions about the first car. And I have no idea what would possess someone to check the box for the wood interior on a 911. That just ruins the interior.

So overpriced I wouldn't even consider it.
