I like this colour: Needs wax: Fixer upper: Another tip cab: Not a fan of the rims, but otherwise.... Ugly interior... And a TT:

Really like the burgandy aerokit one, though it has zero options inside and the rear Carrera badge is placed too high (respray?). A few contrasting interior bits would go a long way towards breaking up the sea of gray.
That red car looks baked, I suspect it is worse in person. The blue C4 also looks baked inside and out, and has some rather unfortunate "upgrades". As for a turbo at $33k, if it weren't a tip I'd be REALLY tempted.

If you use the switch to put it up(turn car on, hold switch ~ 5 seconds until it is up) and then pull the fuse, it will stay up all the time.

I'm passing on buying a friend's 2001 996 cab. 104k miles, complete rebuilt engine by a known Porsche shop... new cylinder liners, clutch, all the stuff that should be done etc... hard top, later exhaust. Silver exterior, grey interior. Runs great, excellent paint. Interior is good except for peeling material on the driver's door top piece. Ken has a nice little collection of cars, this one hurts his back and so he doesn't drive it, so he's selling it. He's asking $18, might take less. Private message me and I'll hook the two of you up. I have no vested interest in this car, just passing along a decent deal. Sorry, no pictures. Jon

Just a bump of this thread to keep my dreams of one day owning another Porsche alive...
How reliable is the 4WD on the 996? In a perfect world of course 4WD is an advantage (Audi Quarto) but what about the added weight and complexity? How does a 2WD 996 compare to a 4WD?

On a 996 you can remove the front drive shafts and have a (heavier) RWD car. On a 964 you can't do that.
I think...

Correct. Lots of guys seem to do that with the TT to make a budget GT2, and the C4S to make the C2S that Porsche didn't make with the 996. I think some just pull the drive shafts, while others pull the differentials and everything.

If you mean a 964 I am pretty sure you cannot easily make a C4 rwd (not without swapping the tranny).

Got mine running last week and took her on her maiden voyage today! Nothing like the feeling of leaving the house under her own power for the first time! Still have lots to do but at least I can drive it now!!

I have been saying for over a year that the 996TT is the best Porsche HP:dollar spent ratio out there. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up an X51 996TT for $23k two years ago. Oh, it was SO nice....
