Nice to see someone who knows what they're talking about as well. Car was sold long ago to another mk1 enthusiast who swapped a new hood on. Luckily it wasn't a Rabbit or it would've been a smoothie hood and a bit of a pain to find a replacement! - Ian |

I thought about this thread last week when an early One popped up for sale, looked pretty clean too.

When I was a kid, my dad, my brother and I sat at the kitchen table counting quart tupperware containers full of nickels dimes and quarters until we came up with the $500 ( it think that's what it cost) to buy my brother a two tone silver and grey Scirocco.

Still sitting where it was, not Farr from my abode. I run into the owner's brother once in a while, we have a laugh about his crazy brother w the Scirocco that is just sleeping under a blanket.
I emailed back and forth w the owner once or twice but never got a price from him, IIRC and his brother just says that he wants a lot for it, or something along those lines. I've obviously moved on w many other vehicles since then and if anything, I'm trying to simplify my life and reduce my footprint of parked vehicles. Never know, though. I may get it yet.

I'm hopeful you do.
You'd do it justice. ![]() But I hear what you're saying. Less is better.

Had 3 of them, a standard and 2 S versions. Bought my Cirrus Grey S new in 81 and sold it in 01 after I bought the 911. Wish I could have kept it but no garage space and living under a cover in the drive was no life for an immaculate car. Shame as the guy who bought it built a custom dash, dropped an Audi 5 in it and generally ruined a classic VW.
Not many nice examples out there any more.

First car an 83 8V. Second car a 87 16V that I put cams, exhaust etc into. Great car. Currently hunting for another 16V for my now 16 year old son. He has a MK2 Jetta with a cammed and warmed up ABA, but either a MK2 16V GTI or a 16V Scirocco is what he is after. We have the bits to build a 2.0 ABF already and may just put that in the Jetta...

I had a '75 model back in the early 80's. It was bogged down by smog equipment and a poor choice of carb.
Trick back in the day was a Holley carb from a Dodge Omni or Plymouth Horizon. $25 at wrecking yard. It really made a fun car a lot more fun.

I bought a brand new 1982. First new car. Paid a bit over $10,000 which I thought was crazy money. Fun car. Houndstooth interior. Euro headlights. Momo Fittipaldi wheel. Sold it a year later and bought a 1973 911 for about the same money.

Bump. A call from a friend last night...he has a 1.7 MKI. Said he was using it for a commute from Salem to Eugene while visiting a cancer fighting friend. Raved about how good it felt, was thinking of maybe upgrading a bit. I encouraged him to do so after remembering this thread. Yes, I like the body style when they first came out...didn't know the designer.
