Here's something I'd like to know, if it's even possible.

It appears the ground knew of the turn program because it was reported by ACARS sometime before 1:07. I would like to know the records of previous take-offs to Bejing, with the same pilot or co-pilot, to see if a similar turn had been programmed into the computer during the same times. If so, it would tend to support the idea that it was a common "plan B" route by one or both of the pilots and the most recent programming was not alarming.

Don't know if those records are kept, but it would be interesting.

Although there seem to be some sort of shadows and figures in the picture, it's hard to tell what we're looking at (plus, the oil, along with many other theories, have already been debunked). But hey, at least Courtney Love is trying to help!

That looks to me like an image of an aircraft over flying a forest, it looks to be above the trees. If it is in fact on the ground, it must have been placed there not landed there, there is no landing path visible behind it, and you can't dump a jumbo jet in a forest and keep it intact, the wings would have been destroyed running out the landing at the least....

Update 8.30am ET: The Maldivian government issued a statement saying that the country's military and airport radars had not seen the flight. However, it should be noted that a large airplane, by flying at low level, could easily escape detection by radar.

According to a local newspaper, residents of a remote island in the Maldives, Kuda Huvadhoo, spotted a plane at 6:15 a.m. local time on March 8 that could have been the missing Malaysia Airlines 370. Eyewitnesses cited by the paper said they saw "a jumbo jet," white with red stripes across it, flying low and very loudly. The description of a big airplane in those colors is consistent with the Malaysian Boeing 777.

The islanders said they did not recall ever seeing an airplane there, and at that height, before, making it unlikely that what they had seen was a normal takeoff or landing by another passenger jet.

The time of the sighting also matches what we can deduct about the plane's range and its known whereabouts.

Investigators believe someone with flying experience took the cockpit controls and steered Flight MH370 off its planned route.

A Malaysian government official said the hijacking theory was now "conclusive".

Radar tracks show the plane climbing and descending in unusual patterns, which should have alerted air traffic controllers that something was wrong.

MH370 flew to 45,000ft - almost 2,000ft above what Boeing says is its maximum recommended height - before descending to 23,000ft.

It changed course at least twice from its scheduled route - first to fly west back towards Malaysia and then north west into one of two air lanes used by commercial planes.

Although the search area spans a vast area of nearly 3 million square miles, a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation said the plane is most likely somewhere on the southern end of the search area.
"This is an area out of normal shipping lanes, out of any commercial flight patterns, with few fishing boats, and there are no islands," the official said, warning that the search could well last "weeks and not days."
Australia said Wednesday, March 19 that the area of the southern Indian Ocean where it is searching for the plane has been "significantly refined."
The new area is based on work done by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board on "the fuel reserves of the aircraft and how far it could have flown," said John Young of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

That's a much smaller search area than anything I've seen before.................................maybe in a few weeks.............

The home base shaped search area is very near the same arc which the military satellite last called out (see lower termination point).

And derived my own map based on the information currently available, and came up with a blue dot which matches the current home base shaped search area.

On "The Aviationist" web site he mentions the turn to 40* was done on the previous flight as well at the same spot.

IRCC, the 40* turn (actually a turn to 40*) was to the right(east) and a normal course correction for the route to Beijing. I was referring to the 90+* turn to the left (west) which was entered into the plane's computer.

Does anyone know if records of previous ACARS reports are kept?

Latest update.

Malaysian authorities are requesting India to search a specific area in the southern ocean, using only air assets. They would not disclose the coordinates to the public, however. This is in addition to the areas being searched by the U.S. and Australia.

I'm sure they must have their reasons, but it certainly makes them look like they're not being upfront with the public. I'm just an observer in all of this, but it's terrible to be putting the families of the passengers through this.
