777 down

A 777 is a very large and high-profile aircraft. If some terror group wanted an aircraft to deliver a bomb or whatever else there are a whole heck of a lot more discrete ways to go about it.

Guarantee every triple-7 anywhere near a western population center (and yes they know what the equipment type is since it's on the flight plans) will be in someone's cross hairs until touchdown until the missing one is accounted for.

As a pilot suicide, maybe, but seems like they could have done this without disabling the transponder etc.
CNN, which I had on all day in the garage working on my car, was stating how this is a game changer if the "good guy" pilots were in on this.

I'm with whoever said the military/countries have a better idea of what is going on then they are saying...let CNN run on an babble. What I don't get is after watching hours of this....they are now finally having their experts state that Vietnamese air control would be on the radio immediately when that thing didn't show up. Kinda what Seahawks said above. But why weren't they talking about this the other day?

Here is some more interesting stuff courtesy of Daily Mail Doomed airliner pilot was political fanatic: Hours before taking control of flight MH370 he attended trial of jailed opposition leader as FBI reveal passengers could be at a secret location | Mail Online

Another example of a crummy Craigslist ad.

For a $15 million item I'd expect more than just 4 photos, 1 of which is just of an old warehouse.

Excellent, Jeremy.

From that Daily Mail link:

A satellite was able to pick up a ‘ping’ from the plane until 08:11 (A.M.) local time, more than seven hours after it lost radar contact, although it was unable to give a precise location. Mr Razak went on to say that based on this new data, investigators ‘have determined the plane’s last communication with a satellite was in one of two possible corridors – north from the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan through to northern Thailand, and south from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.

If as suspected the plane was diverted into the Indian Ocean, the task of the search teams becomes more difficult, as there are hundreds of uninhabited islands and the water reaches depths of around 23,000ft.

Countries in the plane’s potential flightpath have now joined a huge effort to locate the missing passengers, but China described the revelation as ‘painfully belated’. And FBI investigators say the disappearance of MH370 may have been ‘an act of piracy’ and that the possibility that its hundreds of passengers are being held at an unknown location has not been ruled out.

Meanwhile, leading aviation lawyer James Healy–Pratt, who is helping relatives, said Malaysian Airlines had declined to buy Boeing’s Airplane Health Management system, which monitors systems in real time and could have alerted it to any potential problems, rather than having to recover a black box.

‘If the transponder was manually disabled then one can only hope that the black boxes were not also manually disabled,’ he said. ‘Otherwise, the truth will never be known.’

The revelations about Zaharie’s political affiliations are highly sensitive in a country where political dirty tricks are widespread.

One of the investigation sources said: ‘We are looking into the theory that Zaharie’s political beliefs may be a factor. There are huge sensitivities surrounding this but we cannot afford not to pursue any angle brought to our attention.’

Separately, a police source told the Mail on Sunday: ‘I can confirm our investigations include the political and religious leanings of both pilots.’

What ifs:

Terrorist OR suicidal pilot(s)

One or the other OR a combination of both, they've succeeded.

Now that they've focused an investigation towards criminal, has security and screening tightened? Will we have more of the same disappearances? Some government must know more of whats behind this and simply don't want the guinea pig passengers to panic. Malaysia is looking quite lax. Over a week goes by and Chief Mahem of Maylay say's we know it was deliberate action. Should have called for criminal investigation assistance immediately.

They armed the pilots when passengers started to take over the planes. Is it time to arm the passengers?

If there were armed passengers on 9/11, there would have been no hijackings. And I would trust qualified civilians any day over DHS's sky marshals.

Yeah, let's all bring guns on board and have a good shoot out. Never mind the pierced fuselage.

That's a figment of Hollywood's imagination and viewers' ignorance. Ever wonder how military transports don't fall from the sky when they open the rear hatch to air drop vehicles or people, nothing gets sucked out the back?

I was actually thinking of that clip too. Back then, however, most hijackings were just political statements (usually about Cuba) and people didn't get shot, let alone planes used as missiles. It's different now and gunplay is warranted in some cases.
