If I can open Google Earth and through basic input obtain enough detail to see my own house, identify what cars are in the driveway and the new outdoor umbrella on our picnic table I'm sure someone knows either what is pictured or what is not with HD imagery not available to us, civilians

Looks to me as total stalling / misinformation for a reasons only known to Malaysia government.

Interesting struff if you google.......Diego Garcia. Some buy on a video claims he has, "proof" that the plane landed in Diego Garcia, that it is hidden in a "Farraday" hangar which is shielded. Diego Garcia is as sectret as Area 51 and is least by the US form Great Britain. He goes on the assumption that Diego Garcia would only be a distance of eleven miles beyond where the original Chinese destination was for the flight and that plenty of fuel was onboard for this Diego Garcia destination. His big "proof" was that natives of the Maldives were eye witnesses to the airliner flying toward Diego Garcia very low over the water at approximately 5:48 am.

Makes sense, but for what purpose would the US want with a B-777 full of passengers or a B-777 itself?

Given the choice of conspiracy or stuff up, I'll take stuff up most times. I think when (or if) this modern day Mary Celeste mystery is solved, there will be no foul play.

Ofcourse, given where its thought to have gone down, the elapsed time- the mystery may never be unravelled. As one of the searchers said tonight - not so much looking for a needle in haystack, we're looking for the haystack.

Probably a combination of the southern Indian ocean not being a regular area of interest for hi res satellites so not on a regular orbit and this....

the only thing it doesn't fit as far as data, is the location of the crash.

if you are hijacking a jet, you will probably stay pretty close to civilization, and fly the plan in a big circle, because you don't want to have to wait 3 or 4 hours to land, or get anything done.

you wont fly a one way route to the middle of nowhere (literally)

Most of the high resolution photos you see on Google Earth or Bing are not satellite photos but aerial photos from an aircraft.

No one is going to take high resolution photos of the ocean. There are many areas of land that are not mapped at high resolution. Your house is mapped high resolution because you live in a populated area and the tax man wants a view of your back yard to see if you built a pool or storage shed and they can tax you more for the improvements. It is an astonishing feat of engineering and marketing that Google and Bing can map the cities at fantastic resolution and serve it up to the world for free.

One of the best damn good ideas I have heard in years!! Unfortunately the shark population is dwindling thanks to our Asian brothers who insist that shark fin soup brings very good profits. We get those reports because the ocean is full of trash. At this point I'll honestly be surprised if we ever know what really happened. Though I think the Malaysian government knows more than they let on.

How do you guys know it won't be an Airbus? Whenever I book it seems to be the luck of the draw. I would prefer to go Boeing too. Is it the airline and that you're familiar with their fleet?

Unless I've missed it but has there been an EXACT timeline released of the activity from the moment it went airborne to final tracking? Covering every form of ping, comm., radar, controller, etc..

When you're about to book your ticket you can look at the flight details and see which plane it is. You can also do a search and find out which airlines fly which planes on certain routes. They're pretty fixed, with the same planes flying the same routes all the time. Then, based on your route, look for flights with the airline you know uses your plane of choice for that route.

Why would the pilot take a heading into nowhere? Wouldn't he circle over populated areas as to prevent a shootdown - but increase his negotiating strength to turn the plane into a projectile?
