Speaking of helos... a lot of helos on the show... how many do they have on one ship? Unless the Russian ship is an aircraft carrier.

The show is sounding worse and worse - I better watch the pilot before you all turn me off even more.

I liked it enough, but looks like it's going to become like Star Trek Voyager.

Was going to watch the re-airing of the pilot tonight - didn't know about Rhona being in it - whoa - win-win!

I've gotten to the part (in the pilot) where lady scientist angrily confronts condescending captain about pulling her team off the ice. Its like soap opera acting. Tell me it gets better.

I've known my share of lady scientists...they don't look like that even after multiple shots!

The show idea is interesting but wasn't it done before? Seems like it was...

Just watched the first one. Pretty good entertainment. Full of errors and head scratchers like does a gas turbine DDG use the same fuel as a (most likely) diesel boiler cruise ship? My understanding is that those gas turbine ships are pretty thirsty....like doubtful they could transit from the Arctic to Florida without refueling a couple times.... but hey its just TV.

See post #24... I think.

I watched the pilot. I don't think the technical details and/or logistics are going to stand up to scrutiny, but I'll give it a few more episodes and see how things go... not expecting much, but might be a fun ride if one can just stay focused on a surface level.

Let's hope there aren't going to be zombies.

Not that there's anything wrong with that; I watch The Walking Dead... it's just that I hope this thing stays away from it and also doesn't get too deep into "total breakdown of society" with desperate mobs causing havoc everywhere once the crew gets on land.

Not that there's anything wrong with desperate mobs... it's just that I'm pretty sure they would have to be mowed down in the name of "the greater good" by the crew (USN killing US citizens en masse?), and I don't think I'm in the mood for that sort of thing being portrayed on network TV at the moment.

A coronal mass ejection or terrorist organizaton-delivered EMP disaster is way too possible in the U.S., and our government is too short sighted to do anything about shoring up the grid.

If it happens, things are gonna get ugly fast.

Watched the pilot last night - a little melodramatic but I guess that's par for the course these days.

The bar was set pretty high with "Breaking Bad' and "Mad Men" - not sure we'll ever see anything as good as those two series.

I did enjoy the surface to air combat parts.

And Rhona.

Episode # 2 on tonight.........

Why is she such a thing? I don't see it. Of course for a scientist she is hot, and after four months at sea she would be super hot, but otherwise . . . the radar operator is cuter.

Personal taste is just that.......personal. For me, she's always ranked very highly on the ultimate babe list.

I get a kick out of the weapons used on the show. All pretty much BS. Even the gun made the wrong kind of noise as it was moving. And they move @ multiple feet per second squared. 1 shot one kill with 5" is well pretty spiffy

What was the perceived dramatic need to have the captain order for the 5" against the helicopter? Sacrifices so much credibility.

First - thanks to both of you for your service. Your military background will be helpful moving forward with this series, provided you continue your interest in the show and also to participate in the thread, of course.

Obviously they are trying to achieve an effect with their audience, Joe. I'm not up to speed as much as you are on the armament details but FWIW there are plenty of command/tactical decisions being made I have to wonder about.

JYL: I was wondering about that too but chalked it up to dramatic purposes as you said. I was looking on the Internet for more info on this type of vessel and one of the weapons they have is "laser guided". The fictional "USS Nathan James" is based on 2 guided missile destroyers called the "USS Dewey" and the "USS Halsey" and those 2 vessels are what we are actually seeing on the show.

Thanks again for your service and input! Go Navy!

Ok so they throw every cliche in the book out in this show. It's unrealistic and at times stupid like dude holding the fuse in place after the nuke went off.... And TNT badly really *really* badly needs to hire better sound people....

But it's entertaining

And even with all it's faults it's one of the best shows running right now. Unless you are into honey boo boo.

Watched episode 2 on the DVR tonight. Mitra's character was really annoying... Her constant arrogant attitude is getting old, hopefully the writers smooth out her character soon. And the director needs to get her some acting lessons.. Egawd ! At least she's easy on the eyes.
