I don't object to loud pipes most of the time but I have a neighbor I'd like to strangle over pipes. It sounds like a Honda or some other Japanese V-twin because it sounds like crap with straight pipes. And rather than idle through the neighborhood at 5am he revs it to mid range rpm before shifting. What an a$$hat!

But seriously, needlessly loud bikes are just bad ambassadors to the not rider crowd.
That was in jest.. yet.... I am sure there amongst a certain group are those who would emulate.

I enjoy those loud pipes so much........I always try to inch my Silverado as close as I can to enjoy them all the more.....the bikers seem to appreciate my passion....they always give me a little wave with their finger.

Even worse yet are the ass holes on the big thumpers with the super loud exhaust, especially when they are right outside my window when I'm in the middle of an important conversation on my cell. Inconsiderate bastards.

Why not make a thread where you can ***** about Harley riders with loud pipes who have tattoos and are posers?

You could get all your griping, *****ing, whining and complaining in one thread!!!

Oh, wait, that would be reason enough to start another thread *****ing about something..

***** rhymes with stich

Coolest photo ever

-------------------------------------------

Personally I couldn't care less what some clown does with his own money but that obnoxious noise can be just ridiculous.

About a week ago I'm sitting outside of a cafe with a friend. A HD whatever goes by with truly open pipes.
The windows of the cafe shook as he rode by and I could feel my ear drums complaining. You couldn't hear anything else.

I've never heard them that loud before. Maybe it's a cam timing thing but who ever was riding it must be getting permanent hearing damage because of it.

I just don't get why someone would ride such a LOUD bike. Why damage your own hearing for gods sake?????

ABSOLUTE FUCHEWITTERY

I would think that a reasonable person would simply vary their speed just a bit (by either slowing down or speeding up) and remove themselves from the vicinity of the ass hole....what am I missing here?

Who doesn't like the ear splitting shriek of an F1 car (or at least-used to)? Who doesn't like the roar of a big hi-po V8 or symphony of a flat six?

The problem with HDs is they are the worst sounding engine in the world. They sound like Nana ****ting the bed again. Which is fine on a farm or a saw mill, or even round town, when muffled. But the loud pipes thing is just an affectation for insecure attention seeking 'bad ass' fat guys who also enjoy dressing up like the Village People.

So much noise, so much posing, so little performance. Its pretty funny.

Eye of the beholder I suppose....I'm sure LOTS of people hate stuff, but just don't bother starting one thread after another on PPOT....

And I resent the implication....I am NOT fat

My comment above wasn't directed to anyone here.

It's that silly idiot that passed by that cafe that concerns me.
Seriously ear splitting stupidity...

What would you have to do to a HD to get it that loud?

I dunno....maybe they have 'em loud so they won't hear me laughing my azz off. I don't actually do that (LMAO), but I DO the internal "hee haw" and simply shake my head too. Like I said earlier...I give my "poser" buddy total hell

Craig,

He wrote you for the loud pipes. What makes them ilegal if you were just idling. How can he tell and what made him go back to look?

I'm not seeking attention. I'm far from fat. Far from a bad ass. I dont wear the items of clothing you allude to. I own two HD t-shirts. One of them happens to be a gift from a fellow Pelican. I dont try to appear as someone I am not. My bike performs extremely well, for what it is. Where is the humor??

So basically, you can shove your stereotyping right up where you crap from.

Exactly THIS.

My bad boy poser buddy, HD "enthusiast", cop by day black leather tough guy by night.

Dropped $21k on a new HD, then sent it to Wisconsin to have it bored, stroked, cam'd, new trans components added, pipes, intake, dyno-tune... Now has well over $30k into a bike that you can find 5 of, outside any given bar.

He thinks it "sounds amazing"but really the bumped CR and cams just made it louder.

He looked like a kid who's goldfish died the first time we rode together and I just trashed it with my old Hypermotard 1100.

In the proper context, (ie: the racetrack), nothing beats the sound of an F1 at full throttle zooming by.

Would I want to hear that noise as I am still sleeping in my bedroom when my neighbor fires up his F1 racer? Or his souped up Civic? Or Harley? Or crotch rocket?

No.

It has been posted before - but that unnecessary 'blip - blip - blip' of the throttle at a stoplight is just worthless. If you are afraid your bike will stall, get your throttle and carbs adjusted. Going vroom - vroom - vroom every 10 seconds cried out to me "I am an attention whore." Get over yourself. You are not impressing anybody by your ability to twist your wrist.
