Not mine but I have always lusted for one. This was bought new from Harley and road raced. Now street legal and he rides it to the show once in awhile.

The only Harley I owned was a 1977 Café Racer, XLCR, I liked it, looked good, wasn't fast and didn't corner. I didn't have to race anyone.

Yep! Hoping to get a few miles on it to break in the top end before I drain it all and put it in the living room.

Not sure but it is a factory XR 750, I used to watch these race but never got to ride one.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ the above is correct - XR 750's were never sold to public, they were race bikes only with no titles. Interesting factoid is they were assembled and shipped and looked just like it was ready-to-ride...........................................but they were not. In fact is was understood that as a racer you would get the bike and then immediately disassemble the entire bike including the engine and then start over. If you tried to start the engine as shipped it would probably self destruct in 2 mins.

The race 750 had aluminum barrels, heads with completely different valve angles, combustion chamber design, piston dome, better valve geometry, etc. They were not equipped with any type of self starting or charging system. - For those who may laugh at what that is - you should google power output in competitive race trim in that era...............impressive

The bike that was sold to the public was a 1000cc iron Sportster in an slightly updated frame with cafe racer style sheetmetal.

Now - there is a very rare late XR1200cc that was based on the Evo style engine. Those are really serious street machines. With a little tuning easily could achieve over 100HP at the wheel and 80+ ftlbs of torque as well. Now the frame, weight and geometry it was good but no contemporary sport bike in the twisty's - but moderate curves with straight-line acceleration was bad@ss.........................

In 76 and 77 Harley made the café racer XLCR with the upswept side pipes, 1000cc. All black.

in 84 they made the XR 1000 that looked a lot like the XR 750, really a good looking street bike. It also had the upswept side pipes and twin Dell Ortos coming out the other side.

Both of these are expensive these days. As I said before, I owned a 77 XLCR and enjoyed it but I had it in the 80s,
When they came out my street bike was a 75 Triumph Three cylinder that Danny Macias made faster for me. He put the road racing cams in it, a stronger clutch, Dunstall exhaust, AND, the 900cc kit from a company in Texas. These came with front and rear disk brake, possibly the first production street bike in the US to have them. Triumph had bought the BSA and used their three cylinder frame for Triumph threes starting in maybe 74. This bike is pictured in post 111

Back on eBay. Gotta put it in the right category this time. I have a much higher offer from a Wyoming buyer, but will let it run out another 10 days.

New vintage bike for me: Moto Guzzi 850T (before the three disc brakes). My first non-Honda. It's got 25,000 miles, recent paint in a non-factory color (but not the usual red or brown), runs good.

After the long running cafe racer thread, and now this cool thread.
I can't help but looking around to see what sort of mid sized, upright sitting,
Reliable , cheap, fun to ride the mountain roads around here sort of bike would turn up.

Would like any input on these,

I like this combo newer bike, comfortable sitting position, sweet four cyl engine, good price.

What am I not seeing? Too many miles?

I'd say that first one would be your best bet for a worry free ride. I think you'd enjoy it a lot more than the others.

1983 CBX 550F - not sold in US. Stock except for the exhaust.

My second bike in University. Bought this one a few years ago on CL when I started riding again. Was on it for 2 minutes before I started to ask "Why the hell did I stop riding?"
