Aren't runways supposed to be concrete, something like six feet thick, pre-stressed?
This is barely adequate for a bicycle path... After a second look, I'm wondering if maybe the airplane was towed to the big brick patio, for pictures or display, then someone in charge decided to 'start 'er up'. And hilarity ensued.

If they only swept sand into the joints after they laid the pavers. Oh well.

Holy cow! Are those pavers on the empennage? Look at the dents in the leading edge! Wow.
This looks like the mother of all high power engine turns gone wrong.

So I take it that the back story is that the pilot juiced it when he spotted a rickshaw driver on his cell phone.
No? Bump

Yup. Full power engine run-up after maintenance. Kind of hard to make out in the pics, but you might be able to see where the bricks end and the "real" pavement starts. If they would have backed it up about 50 feet they would have been just fine.
It might look worse than it is. No engine damage, just sheet metal. Pretty easy fix. You might also notice the lack of a blast fence or any other sort of safety barricades. Nothing to keep anyone from driving or walking behind it. Things are different in the third world, even in aviation.

Wow, that looks pretty stupid on their part. Damage isn't as bad as this mishap though.... LINK. Just saw it on airliners.net here.

Look beneath the aircraft fuselage...you can see the bricks have begun to rise due to the pressure differential during the high power run. They began to lift from the rear of the plane.
Jeff, you have the best job in the world.
