In the course of a year both my dogs (boxers) suffered partial tears. My vet put them on meds and the Phycox soft chews. My male is fine all healed female was fine than jumped off my deck and tore it through. Surgery was a little over 2k took her 3 weeks to walk again on the leg and was fully healed in about 3 months. She's been fine since than and is very active.

My 2 yr old OES has a partial ACL tear. Series of x-rays Tues to determine how bad. Guess I'm selling some Porsche stuff to pay for the operation.

GWN7,
My Daisy had this surgery about three months ago. Don't even want to tell the cost, but it was worth every cent. The recovery is not all that bad, but, at times, it is emotionally difficult. She is so darn active and happy again. Don't wait as they can become lame over time. AND make sure you have their activity restricted, for up to 10 weeks. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Lady Belle had this done earlier this year.
Expensive, $3500.00 for ACL fix, knee alignment (cut the bone, move the knee ball forward, yuck). Had a great orthopedic surgeon. Did the rehab, long walks, and all is amazingly good.

He's already on restricted movements because I'm not better from my last operation. At 114 lbs (52 kg) it won't take much for him to damage it worse. He was a rescue.

Hooch our yellow lab mix blew his right rear out when he was a couple of years old . It was a complete tear . Our vet restrung his leg . It was a challenge for him for 2 or 3 weeks . Then he got accustomed to his restrictions and dealt with it pretty well . About a year latter he did the same to the other side .
He knew how to deal with the second one and handled it very well. He went the rest of his life with little to no issues . If anything he got a little arthritic in the last couple of years . It was well worth the repair bill .

My Hooch had TPLO when he was 10. He was already slowing down but developed a limp and was miserable. He lived to 15 1/2, well worth it at the time but was spendy as others have said. He was too large for other alternatives.

Just had our second act repair done on our American bulldog. If one goes bad, usually the other leg will follow in a short period of time, within a year. Successful operation, long healing time, but well worth it. The vet we use is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in this repair. Kinda spendy. but well worth it to see her running on all fours again. Do the right thing by your dog, you won't regret it.

X-ray Day. Hips are fine. ACL it is. It was interesting watching my sister (DVM, B.Sc) and a lab Tec wrestling a dog which weighs more than her does on the x-ray table, to be able to get the photos. Next is a pre-op meeting with a orthopedic surgeon specialist and more x-rays on the 16th.
In this family pets are family and get the best care they need. In for a penny, in for a pound.

My vet cautioned me to be very patient during the recovery. With successful surgery, the dog will be feeling very frisky within days. Healing takes, 8 to 12 weeks. Don't give into the urge to restrain the dog. Daisy was in a 6 x 8 pen during the day for at least 4 weeks, limited walks after that and we followed the doctor's order to the word. At the two week check up, we witnessed another lab that did not stay restrained and pulled out the screws. She was going to have to go through the procedure all over again.
As others have said, it was worth it. Daisy is like a pup again, but it was a long road to recovery. Oh, and we dropped her weight down with a strict diet. Best wishes with the surgery and recovery.

Met with the surgeon. Because of Otis's size the standard repair is not possible and he recommended reconfiguring the knee joint. Both sides are gone. Doing one on the 21st and the second 8 weeks later. Need to win the lotto.

Well after meeting and consulting 3 vets, we went with 4 months of restricted movement and careful, long, rehab to bring Maggie back up to speed. She had a successful late fall season and is her normal self.
