Me too, to this day. My parent's would always go out on saturday night which would leave me with either trains, or Welk. I like the show, lots of great talent but a bit dated.

I have had a large number of younger people work for me and have on a significant occasion had young women ask me where all the "real" men....the young men of their age seem not to be as they expect them to be, but rather too much Tim Taylor and Homer Simpson and not enough John Glenn and Ranulph Fiennes

Reality suggests otherwise, and why the world in general is quite happy to accept that there are inherent behavioural gender differences between Ferdinand the Bull and Bessie the Cow but somehow in humans this has to be studiously ignored.

....well not sure about the bully part, but definitely greater aggression is typical. Can you elaborate, not sure if I get your point of view.....

Real men are never bullies. A bully is just an insecure jerk. Real men stop bullies.

I can't speak about the tight jeans girls bike riding beard funny talking light in the loafers males. I don't personally know any. I don't want to meet any of them. I do know many normal heterosexual hard working MEN who are fully capable of fixing a car, toilet, appliance, gun, concrete, fences, sprinkler systems, cleaning the house and taking care of their family and pets. They never would strike a woman unless she was physically attacking him and only enough to stop the attack. They would never bully anyone and would step right up to protect any child from imminent danger. You know, the normal American men. At least in my part of the world.

Disclaimer: I have not watched any any TV sitcoms since Seinfeld. I doubt much has changed. I only watch a few science shows and the car shows on Velocity, History, BBC America and a few others. Almost never the big networks.
We were recording "Growing up Fisher" story of a intelligent, blind, recently divorced father co-raising his two kids with the assistance of his "going through a middle age crisis" ex-wife.
The show was smart and funny... and didn't get renewed.

Oh yeah... just heard this Sunday... the new generation is called...

The "Movement Generation", I get it... the movement to make the world a better place...

But I couldn't help but giggle just a little bit.

At 30 years old, I feel like I straddle the Gen X and Millennial's line, and it is a strange place between two opposing generations. I grew up with engaged parents, rode a bike to school through junior high school, and felt safe on the streets of my neighborhood. I know how to fix a toilet, repair a car, pour and finish concrete, and how to treat a woman and care for my family and animals. I don't expect anything from the world, and I have worked myself through college and grad school and into the excellent job I have. On the other hand, I do have a beard, carry student loan debt, and my pants are probably too tight in your eyes. Nothing in my childhood or in my young adult life led me to believe that I am an emasculated male...I am more Al Borland than Tim Taylor, and I am nothing like Homer Simpson. What the heck generation did I come from??

More like a bowel movement.

Granted, the "more for me" Baby Boomers handed us something of a toilet to begin with.

The "normal American man" only seems to exist in the boring flyover states where family values aren't a polital catch phrase, it's a way of life, and stupid things like honesty, work ethic, and monogamy are normal, not an exception. I don't know any meterosexuals, or so called millenials who have to dress and act alike to achieve they're own individualities. Oh, I love talking to people and have never actually texted anyone.....ever !

One of the members of our local PCA region does not have a cell phone or computer. He sees no need for either.

I know several ranchers that make deals handshake deals all the time.

When I bought my first house I did sign my name once. At the bottom of a down payment check. It was an owner finance deal. That is how I got the fantastic rate of only 12.5% when the banks wanted 15%. The man was 78 years old and shook my hand and said to mail the check to his new house. I never missed a payment and I had to print out the amortization table with my Commodore 64.

He was funny in that he wanted a cashiers check. I started printing my own checks from Quicken in 1987 on a laser printer. He was happy with that check and I never had to go to the bank for a cashiers check again.

Let's not beat up these millennials too much. They'll inherit our economic (and political) problems. We depend on them to fix them (or else our entitlements will be gone). We haven't been very good stewards of our own finances, so let's hope for the best. They are all internet savvy and, many are very smart and creative. They may someday find the cure to our medical ailments, like cancer, Alzheimer's, arthritis, etc... So bless them and pray they do us proud.

I think many of you need to choose new people to spend time with. My wife is the oldest of 10, so even after 12 years of marriage she still has teenage siblings. They, and their friends, don't fit into any of your stereotypes.

Btw, those of you from the baby boomer generation really don't have much room to talk about effing up the world. Fix the mess called Washington DC and then get back to me about "those damn kids".

You should really shut up and mind your own business. You need to focus more on reality, son. These damn bearded worthless youths looking like Castro...

Here's a little dose of reality for ya...
