There are good cars out there from a variety of competent manufacturers. What set Porsche apart was the air cooled engine in a car with an awesome racing heritage. If it isn't air cooled it's just another good car from one of a variety of competent manufactures, the name on the badge means little. Just my opinion.

You know the saying about the difference between a Porcupine and a 911 car?

Really - why the hate, Motion? In all my interactions with Porsche owners - it seems like most of the Porsche snobs - the ones that give a bad name to the marque all drive the same model. And that model, regardless of internal designation or whether it is air cooled or h2o cooled, is spelled the same way you spell the emergency call number on the phone...

Nice job perpetuating the stigma...

-Z-man

PS: I've seen lots of beautiful 911's and great owners and drivers -- I guess it is the small majority that can ruin it for the rest...

The 924/944/968 family are Audis...the 914 is a Volkswagen. The 928 is a real Porsche though!

I think this discussion, as such, should be moved to the 911 bored, so that we un-evolved people don't have to watch! ;-)

Oh wait, I owned an SC.

Never mind...

Yeah and what's with those 550 drivers, their car doesn't even start with a "9", and they think they can park with the 911s - stay with the black Audi wagons you punks.

I would never hate on owners of anything non 911.

Hating on Boxster/Caymans is laughable. Go drive a 2004 Boxster S. Flog it. Are you really ready to dismiss it as a Porsche? Come on. They're great cars.

I honestly don't know. There's a punk in town with a barely running POS 944 who thinks he's the shiznit. The stigma still looks alive from my POV.

The second sentence....there's some irony somewhere in there. Haha.

Anyone who want to disrespect a 914 needs to look at the auto-x time trials in San Diego. A 914 beats EVERYTHING.

914s used to be cheap. No so much anymore. I sold my factory 914-6 for $25K in 2009. It would command $30-40K now.

The older I get the more tractor like my 911 feels to drive. I am thinking of getting a more modern model, like the 944.

Where does the 912 fit into all of this? Was my 1st Porsche. Total rust bucket. Put in a front pan and patched the floor. Down to bare metal and painted it myself.........AND THEN:

I promptly sold it. I'd had many sports cars and was of the belief one needed more power and had to be able to take the top down.....Promptly bought the 73.5 Targa I've owned for 24 yrs......

Out of the classic lineup, a 928 would be the only thing I'd consider besides a 911. 1998 onwards, I'd take a Boxster but no Coxster or SUV / 4 door.

With enough worn out suspension components pretty much anything can be a real dog. The only real issue was that the a/c wasn't strong enough and UV had already destroyed the dash.

Maybe there will be a 951 in my future, maybe a 911 or something newer. Unfortunately it's not the time for that.

Fugly Porsche hunchback sedan > lightweight two seat sports cars? Really?

Having owned a number of modern 911s, anyone that hates on a Boxster or Cayman hasn't driven one. They are superior cars in a number of ways, even compared to a 911.

The 951 and a 5 speed 928 S4 are the two most amazing and possibly overlooked cars today.

My first love was and is a 911. Afterall, I AM BK911. But... IMO... the 914 is just a better car (if you can get past the ugly!). Wider track, longer wheel base, mid engine and lighter. With roughly the same suspension, simply add the 911 engine and brakes, and easily a 911 killer.

I have been fortunate to have owned several different models of Porsches. My favorite is definitely my 1.7l 914.
