"Oh. A 914. Why don't you get a real Porsche". I pointed out it was a 914-6 and they all thought it was a conversion.
I've gotten nothing but respect here in Houston with my 914. Both when it was a 70hp /4 beast and now a self-built /6 conversion. And it has a nice faded red paint job too.

I could buy a brand new 911 today if I wanted to. But I rather drive my 914 (and Boxster). Judgmental people will be judgmental!

only folks who ever called my 951 "not a real porsche" were high school kids at car shows who never even driven a RWD car, just there parents civic, and that select breed of aircooled 911 owner who is just a dick to everyone all the time anyway.

otherwise the 951 has its niche. i'll openly admit is the number crunchers porsche, but it is excellent to drive and good fun.

Talk about a thread designed to bring the resident grognards out of the woodwork.

I don't care what wheeled conveyance one uses in the world of P.

There is something about the 928...but you are right about a certain type that goes after the 944. Most (not all) seem to beat them up. While I understand a 944 turbo is a blast I just can't get past the lines...always looked like a Supra to me. The 924 is sad (unless turbo'd).

But the 914s are the shyts!

I'd find it hard to be passionate about one of those "other ones". The 911 certainly isn't the best car around, it's just that it's the car I want.

If I were buying a Porsche now I'd probably look for a late model 928 GT S4. Incredible cars. Maybe I couldn't keep up with the repairs though.

Well, I have the lowly 964. The UGLY DUCKLING.
Could be ever-so-slightly worse. It's NOT A TIP.
911 guys make fun of me, as well. They point and laugh.
I only drive at night now.
Thinking about back dating to an '88.
Oh, the shame.
Probably better off getting rid of it ........ probably lose my shirt ........ maybe I'll just keep it - hidden.

WTF? The 964 is the pinnacle of Porsche 911 awesomeness!

This is the ONLY brand people question the validity of a model they designed, manufactured, and sold.

Its really bizarre

Sure, I luv the 9eleben, had 2 of em', long & short hood. They were equally tasty.
I'd bring my low life velociraptor to the AX for a meal.......long hood, short hood, GTwhatever, yummm. Ayup, it was a gnarly tool but all that easy meat is too good to pass up.

I'll take it off of your hands! Your lowly 964 is an appreciating asset now.

So true! Also funny what non car people think of the 911... "that weird upside down bathtub"... "That frog looking car"... "the best engineered poorly designed automobile".

Mind you I see a 996 in my future

The value of the lowly 964 is slowly being dragged upward, certainly.
Mainly due to the appreciation of the "top dog" 993 and the "glorious" 3.2 cars.
Yes?

There are many non-car folks that still think a Porsche is just a high priced VW. Which isn't too far off for some older models. This is the kinda of thread that gives 911 owners the prick label that so many of them deserve.

If it was a serious thread. But I'd peg the chances of that being the case as pretty small.

Except that no one is being all serious about picking on non-911's. So stop with the prick label crap.....
