There is a lot of snow on the ground up here in central Az. Chino Valley has at least 3 inches on the ground and it's still coming down. This is at about 5,500 ft.
Flagstaff is around 7,000 ft so is getting a lot more snow.

Not sure where you are located now. But this weather which is forecast to continue thru tomorrow may affect your route choice.

Good luck on your trip.

Cheers Richard

I think I am going to end up coming in the southern route 10 from El Paso
I guess I'll make the final decision as I am leaving Arkansas, but for now I am thinking Oklahoma and over. I'll look good and hard tomorrow before I head out. If you see me waive, if you see me on the side of the road please don't throw a beer bottle at me

It'll be sunday before I get to El Paso and since the storm is moving east I just have to take it head on and out the other side.
Wait 16 in El Paso? if it's like that I'll just stay here in Va

Phoenix/Tucson area is supposed to be getting hit pretty hard this weekend. Which is funny, since typically the weather in those 2 locales is much nicer than where I live (think 10-15 degrees warmer and almost never snows), but this particular storm is going to completely bypass us. Temps are supposed to be a little chilly this weekend, though--highs in the 30's.

Define pretty hard, I am sure we have different levels of hard hit where snow is concerned

In the NE, you'd call it a dusting. To us, it's a blizzard.

They're getting "hit hard" compared to the extremely moderate 40-50 degree winters they're used to

However, keep in mind we don't salt the roads or even know what a snow plow is. And the drivers...complete farking idiots at the sight of a single snow flake. Drive accordingly.

Tucson is not really a concern for me, It'll be long gone by sunday, my issue is figuring the best route to get there. Texas doesn't look good but neither does northern NM, and I am not really too fond of crossing the mountains north of Tucson. I know how to deal with the crap and my car is more than capable of going and stopping and turning, I am used to snow, but Y'all desert dwellers kind scare me.

Yup. My sister lived in Washington NC and when it snowed everything closed down for days, including school and grocery stores.

Well, there's 2 kinds of desert dwellers when it comes to driving in the snow. You've got your morons who think snow doesn't alter road conditions and continue driving as they would on a smooth, dry surface. And then you've got your morons who think they can't go above 10 miles an hour or else their car is going to careen off the highway into the desert. The "fun" is in avoiding said morons.

Disclaimer: "We" also have the same problem with rain. In all honesty, though, I think Arizona drivers are better than many of the other states I've lived in/spent significant periods of time in. Generally more "polite" drivers, too.

That's one of the things I LOVE about working on base here. If we get 1/4 inch of snow on the ground, they close the base and send everyone home (or call and tell us not to come in). Usually happens once or twice a year.

I'm the guy who when it comes to driving in the snow, that I wait until the state police say stay off the roads and then I come out and play and pull people out of the ditch, but then again I don't really play fair, my truck was made for snow/mud/crap and with the manual trans actually slows down very well and in control.

Quite a change from your day here just yesterday.
