Stuff not staying open all night and people actually having an option of being with friends and family seems good to me.
We used to go stay over in Monterrey Va. and if you didn't have enough gas to get out of that valley by 8PM on sat night you were stuck there until 8AM monday, that was before they installed those new fangled pumps that will swipe a card.
I like it, slow down a little and just relax from time to time

I was just there in early November with some buddies on a golf trip.....loved it! We stayed at a condo at the Starr Pass Golf Resort....very beautiful area but man what a tough bunch of courses for us...ahem... moderate handicappers!

One evening I was BBQing some steaks on the outside BBQ when I spilled some of the "gravy" on the outside patio. I had just re-entered the condo when I turned around and saw a family of javelinas scurry out...those guys are BIG! The dad must have been a good 150 lbs+! Needless to say I kept away until they were finished! Oh and they stink too! Do people hunt those in AZ?....for some "wild" pulled pork sammiches maybe?

Anyway I might end up being one of those old and slow snowbirds, that you guys curse, and spend the winters down there....in a couple of years or so! Luv Tucson!

All the best to you and the family, Rick and enjoy the New Year in Tucson!

Rick, I grew up in Tucson. It's changed A LOT over the years, but it's still a cool town. I live about 45 minutes SE of there, now (pretty close to Bisbee). If you end up moving down here and need anything, hit me up.

Seahawk mentioned Fort Huahuca...that is where I work.

How about a job that doesn't involve cars.

I don't hunt but I did look into those things just in case I happen to have one between me and the car one morning and.............
They are considered a game animal and being such you have to have a license to hunt them. If you have one penned in your yard you are supposed to make an egress for the animal and if it doesn't leave you are supposed to call animal control. The thing that concerns me about them is the fact they are fairly high on the menu for mountain lions. Now I love cats but I really don't think I want one of those kitties swinging by to be brushed.

I think we have a "grass is always greener" situation here, Rick. Of late, I've toyed with the notion of throwing in my hat and going to get some automotive certs. As an automotive tech, you get to see the fruits of your labor; feel the satisfaction of a job well done as that car drives away. Most of what I do, the world never even hears about, let alone sees. And once it's left my desk, I almost never get an update, either. Project after project, year after year.

You'd rather have a brush with the mountain lion than with the javelina. Those fockers are downright mean! High, high aggression.

Guy, I am sure I can get you a job in the auto field down there, Precision is actually hiring an entry level guy.
Not too sure about how the law feels about people violating certain hunting laws but my little friend .45acp is the equalizer in the me vs javalina situation. I am already working on my excuse. "The damn thing charged me, it must be rabid, I was a feared for my life"

I appreciate the thought, Rick, but I think my wife, ex-wife and kids would shoot me if I took an entry level job anywhere...as their lifestyles would have to drastically change, lol. Maybe once the kids are gone, though...

^^ This would be the 'good' side^^^. Now imagine doing this under extreme pressure for productivity and quality. Then arguing over money (yours) the entire time with everyone above you. Then factor in how horrible non-OE parts are. Throw in a dash working 50-60 clock hours and getting paid for 30 maybe less by the time warranty clerk gets finished with your tickets

I used to enjoy it, back in the day when all I had to worry about was fixing stuff, making a happy customer, and got payed a decent wage to boot. man I miss those days.
After talking to a bunch of folks out west it sounds like that may actually still be in play, at least on the independent level

That's what I've heard from the locals!

After I thought they had left our patio I went back outside to check things out. I was there maybe two minutes when I heard their squeal and out of nowhere the two small ones come running toward me. I thought "how cute"...but then I heard mom and dad not too far off in the distance...needless to say I darted back inside just in time....dad didn't seem too happy!

Fock me! I wasn't going to stick around for this guy to give me a piece of his mind!

Watch out for them javelinas Rick!

One of my "mentors" just retired this year. In a previous life, he had been an auto tech (I wanna say GM stuff, back in the 60s/70s). He was always telling stories about how crappy it had gotten--the exact same grips Asphaltgambler was just mentioning--and that's why he joined the Air Force.
