Mayors and others in positions of responsibility have learned that people mock and grumble when you take precautions about a storm that fizzles out, but people never forget nor forgive when you don't prepare for a storm that blows up big. People lose their lives, and those in power lose their jobs. So they err on the side of caution. I think it's probably the right choice.

Storm track for Nor'easters are very difficult to predict, as they form and move quickly and track isn't predicatable-50-100mi east or west, two different events.

Yes, this block of stats lifted from NOAA indicates how, for example, I live between Bellmore and Seaford.......I'd say I got 7-9 " of snow.....Now check Seaford 17" and its 2 miles from my house.

Now check the stats for Suffolk SouthHampton got 28.8" they got hammered. Nantucket is totally without power and landline phone....
