Thanks a lot pal
I think you have misinterpreted what wdfifteen meant. I think he was commenting on "rights" that are trod upon, not police in general.

Sorta like the right to vote in N. Korea.

Now my wife never gets pulled over.

I think once in her entire life.

She has no idea how to deal with cops. She was nervous, fumbling for paperwork, rambling, making all sorts of bizarre statements, answering questions he has not asked etc...

The whole time I'm telling her to shut up and let the man do his job so we can be on our way.

At one point the officer asks me to get out of the car and step to the back.

As we walk to the back he was peering in the windows trying to see what he could see.

Asks if everything is OK because my wife seems really nervous.

Told him it was all good, she's a goodie two shoes and has never been pulled over and unlike me it's a new experience for her.

He accepted that and we were on our way.

Had she been by herself I have no doubt she would have ended up sitting on the side of the road for an hour while they tore the car apart and waited for the canine unit to show up.
so who pays for the damage if they make a mistake and rip up a new car? For all we know, he could be having a bad day or find his wife in bed with a man that look like you and rip you car in pieces. These guys that went through two of my bags basically dumped it all out onto the passenger seat and the floor My stuff was scattered between here and upstate NY. They just left. What if I had something really valuable in the they break it due to a mistake or bad judgement?

I think they are "effectively" exempt as I think recovery of any damages would prove very difficult.

FWIW I'd think that the black community would look at this and say "welcome to our world".

A friend of mine crossed the border into the US on the water a few years ago. He was with 4 other guys heading down to the July 4th fireworks at Roche Harbor. 1 or 2 year old 45' Searay. Very nice boat. They were on their way to the boat customs port to check in.

About a mile into US waters they were stopped and boarded by a customs boat. At gunpoint they were searched and then removed from the boat. After a search of the boat and an interrogation of all aboard, they were released and the boat was returned. It was trashed. Carpets torn up, cabinets dislodged, cushions sliced open etc... My friend asked who was going to pay for the damage. A customs agent said, "Send the bill to 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue."

After reading all these accounts, put yourself in the position of the cops. I think 99% of us would: 1, look at the car. Its not a gangsta 300m with 22's, or a 94 civic with 15 inch cambered out wheels, it's a 62 chevy. 2, look at the couple. Go up to the car and ask a question. You could see right through the car where there was no threat. 3, run the plates and registration with accuracy. Simple, no? But it is to so many wannabe thug cops who watched too many rambo movies and think they are gods gift to LE. Sad that this happens, but as was said, they will get a few months off on paid vacation, and soon back doing the same.

If I had been the driver of that car, I would have asked them to check my stuff again, because I would have KNOWN that I was legal, and policemen do not scare me.

They should have run it again anyway.

I'll leak one from a firsthand account by a former suburban Chitown cop. He had long left the dept. and I worked with him in his new career. He confided about a posse of them (four to a squad car). They came across a black homeless fellow on a sidewalk, late night. To make the man leave for good, he stood back and watched as two of them kicked and beat the crap out of the poor fellow.

Today we watch these routine scenes online or TV coverage, but what is really done about it? City officials don't want to take any blame for the Police and the department is union. They stand together. So what to do? Ban police unions.

Talk to Jonathon that owned GPR. He bought a longhood that had a postive hit by a dog while being shipped on a car carrier. Feds....Tore it apart....nada. He got compensated. Took a lot of letters and time but he seems to be happy.

Let me get this straight here. They can tear up your stuff based on a hunch. Take your cash ( use it for themselves and hoping to never return it) because they think you are about to commit a crime. Kick your ass if you ask them to re-check some legit paper work. They see it as back talk, then walk away knowing its the wrong person and still be piss at you. Cop:" Fcuk em' if he can afford a new speed boat, he can afford to fix it"? So let just say that you can file paper work or lawyer up, who's paying for that and your time and lost of use? Even if you do get that far, all they have to do is say, the seats were already torn and the boat was broken up when we boarded.

Back when the Coast Guard/US Customs were enforcing the "zero tolerance" drug policy in the late 1980's there were many horror stories of boats being literally destroyed per the above searches. After destroying the interiors of boats and finding nothing, the response was pretty much "tough shxx". If they found as much as a trace of pot, you were big time screwed....
