I’m looking at selling my very nice 2009 Carrera with 63,400 miles on it. Its guards red with manual transmission, nav, heated sport seats, sport exhaust. I love it but may be moving to somewhere that gets winter snow next year.
I have my eye on a beautiful manual 6 speed 2010 Carrera 4S with 26,xxx miles on it. It is a one owner car sold to dealer. They are asking 63k for it (its pristine) but when I see people buying these for 10k less makes me hesitate to pull the trigger on it. Dealer wants to give trade in for a lot less than what I think it’s worth, I guess that’s always the story! Would you guys pay top dollar for a really nice example? I’m tempted to sell mine to an individual and keep looking.

I would only ever overpay for extremely nice condition or really good options. Sport seats, sport exhaust, Aerokit, Sport Chrono, various wheel packages, extended leather, carbon fiber, those are things that you'll be hard pressed to duplicate. If it's just a normal 4S, I would keep looking. They aren't rare cars.
Also remember that most of the great deals aren't on pristine cars. I've found some smoking deals over the years, but most of them required me to invest a little time/money in making the car meet my standards. The less time I have, the more value I put into buying a car that's already nice. Oh yeah, and sell that car outright. If it's that nice you'll find an enthusiast buyer, because it sounds well optioned. Don't let a dealer screw you over.

Depends... Black PDK and convertible is common as hell... But those are recession era cars with low production #s and a vast majority of PDKs.. Not black, stick and coupé are kind of a rare combo actually... And overpriced IMO. That's why I ended up in a 991 but that's another story. PS: I'm not sure I'd sell your car (if you like it) and spend extra $$ for a C4 just because of snow. Good snow tires on a RWD 911 and you can do quite a lot in the white stuff. |

Just from an observational standpoint, there really aren't many affordable 997s out there. Hell, there aren't many affordable 996s out there anymore either.

I agree. I was hoping '09 S would go down below 40 around here, but they seem to have either stayed or increased in price. SF Bay Area premium, whatever that means.

FWIW I bought a 2003 C4S last year with 8700 miles at top of market price. It’s like a new car.
Was looking at an 09 S previously that was a fair amount more. Have really enjoyed the one I bought, and would likely do it again given the chance. I also think the market has bottomed, and prices will be on the rise for 996 and 997 in general. |

Nice catch. Something about ads on Indy's Craigslist - there was a Boxster supposedly for sale in KY that was only advertised in Indianapolis with a too-good-to-be-true price, which is why I thought this one was fishy.

For some reason 997.2s have either leveled off or have even increased in value... It's that or Craigslist is slim pickings these days.

Bumping this thread.... I’m seeing some cars pop up under 30k that look appealing. What are you guys seeing around the country?

I've been "window" shopping on Rennlist lately- I haven't seen any price drops. Perhaps the quality of cars there is not typical to the average 997. I'm certain they are higher quality that craigslist.
