Sonny Barger offered up the Hells Angels for service in Vietnam but the offer was not taken up.

while out on my bachelor party we stumbled on a Hells Angels party where they were raising funds for their incarcerated members. We were pretty loaded and they were partying pretty hard at this bar. This was a public place by the way and they wouldn't let us in. Said they wanted to save us the trouble. One of the guys did give me a Hells Angels shirt since it was my party and they sent us on our way. We didn't question or press it. I still have the shirt but it doesn't get worn.
I feel like there used to be lot more in Seattle, but you just don't see many of them anymore.

Have not heard of Vince Mann or lil George in along time either. The was a pretty god shake dwn in Bham a long long time ago, something about Sundance Saloon and a infiltrator used to hang there....... Anyway i never ever joined up ......Some the people I knew did...Lonely or something .

George Christie, Prez of the Ventura chapter of HA has been a high profile spokesman for the Angels. I've met him, good guy, business owner and his daughter is a lawyer that handles a lot of their business.
He carried the torch along Las Posas Rd during the 1984 Olympics. Later he sued Eunice Shriver on behalf of the HA demanding their $3k donation go to the kids at Special Olympics, not for "administrative costs". That got him into a bit of hot water, all of a sudden they were being investigated for murder and mayhem. More info here; http://articles.latimes.com/1991-08-25/local/me-1901_1_george-christie

The Angels have a Nomad chapter in Washington, with a clubhouse in Spokane. There are a bunch of them in Bellingham. They've tried to muscle their way into Seattle, and we do see prospects at some local gatherings, but they keep getting their asses handed to them, losing members, and they shrink back into the sewer. You've been to the Oyster Run, I'm sure. It's a Bandido run event, believe it or not. Limp Lee was still the main organizer, last I heard. I went on the first couple back in the '80's, when it was just a couple dozen of us. The goal was to start in Marysville and hit every bar that served oyster shooters between there and Anacortes. Amazing how it's grown... That was the tail end of the old biker era, when none of us thought these clubs were long for the world. It was much more "innocent" back then (if you can even use that term). Just general thuggery and low level crime, and trying not to attract undue attention. The whole game has changed, now that there is big, big money at the top. The old timers aren't so happy about that, either.

My dirtbike vs. dirtbag story starts with me passing a Bandido with his girlfriend ("property of...") on the back. It was on a freeway on-ramp, and I was on my XR650L. I blasted past them like they were parked, and visibly startled him. He apparently didn't like that, and caught up to me in the carpool lane about a mile on. Came riding up to pass me, on my left, in my lane. So I pulled the old dirtbiker trick and hit his kill switch. He didn't like that either... Once he got re-organized, he blasted up alongside me and started kicking at me. Kinda hard to do, since I was so much higher up in the air, and his feet were pretty stretched out in front of him on the forward controls. I finally just stomped on that big old Cadillac rear brake pedal of his, and they damn near went down. I think I would have felt bad about that. I finally just grabbed all the brake I had and bailed into one of those center median "official vehicle only" turn-arounds and got out of there.

Almost Banned Once
|
I think the problem is it's one of the few "enterprises" that you can get into with zero capital and it's actually doing well. $$$... Minimal brains + muscle.
IMO Stuff like this is endemic of a failing society, ineffective political and business leadership. The cops are doing the best they can but these Jokers have the best connections and resources. As mentioned above this is about serious money and TV does affect what people think and do.
