Chinese government seems to be treating the domestic stock market decline as a challenge to its authority/power.
Using open and blatant manipulation to try and stop the decline - prohibiting IPOs, short selling, and now any selling by large holders or company management; suspending trading in over half of domestic stocks; pumping public money into direct purchases of stocks; persuading brokers and large investors to buy stocks and stop loaning stock; cutting rates on margin loans. China is trying to enjoy the benefits of free markets, without actually permitting markets to be free, I question how well that will work.

china is not fascist either.
china is an authoritarian oligarchy with a capitalist economic system. fascism would be closer to what we have in the USA, collusion of government and industry to control the economy. remember, that the founder of fascism, Mussolini himself corrected folks, that fascism should correctly be called corporatism. a practice the USA has been sliding towards for 30 years. |

I think labels like fascist, socialist, capitalist, communist, etc are very confusing, unless they are defined in the conversation. Granted I did use the term "communist" myself earlier without supplying a definition - my bad.

As George Orwell so eloquently pointed out with Animal Farm, communism means two very different things:
1) The idealistic system that the revolutionary leaders promise before they get into power. 2) The oppressive oligarchy that is actually formed after the revolution. You seem to be hanging on to the definition of communism as #1. This has been promised by Lennin, Castro, Mao, Pol Pot, and Ho Chi Min. #2 is what was actually practiced by Lennin, Castro, Mao, Pol Pot, and Ho Chi Min--and what JYL was referring to.

Whatever is happening, it's big. Time will tell but Maybe this is a "normalling" of the market. Or were a lot of things in China over valued?

I think a lot of things in China are overvalued. I also think that China's growth would have tapered off a decade ago had its government not spent so aggressively to keep it going. That's not to say that China won't grow again by leaps and bounds, but such growth can only be sustained for so long.
