In the US, you have so many individual freedoms and rights, you can't even appreciate them. Want to organize a big anti-Obama demonstration? Go ahead. Is it freer in China? Have your Chinese friends go out on the streets carrying anti-Xi signs.

Sure, there is a lot of regulation in the U.S. Not being allowed to smoke in a restaurant, or hire a prostitute whenever you want, is pretty minor stuff, as far as encroachments on your liberty go.
Thank you.

Chinese government seems to be treating the domestic stock market decline as a challenge to its authority/power.

Using open and blatant manipulation to try and stop the decline - prohibiting IPOs, short selling, and now any selling by large holders or company management; suspending trading in over half of domestic stocks; pumping public money into direct purchases of stocks; persuading brokers and large investors to buy stocks and stop loaning stock; cutting rates on margin loans.

China is trying to enjoy the benefits of free markets, without actually permitting markets to be free, I question how well that will work.

I wonder how things would be different if the Chinese had continued their sea dominance of the 1400's.
Minor thread derailment: Google - Zheng He - interesting cat.

Nobody takes you seriously, you are just another ordinary American who has been inculcated in the pervasive ignorance that is taught by the American education system. The ignorance is so rampant that you don't even know how ignorant you really are as it is all called excellence. But don't feel picked upon asat least 95% of this Boards respondents share your malaise.

I think labels like fascist, socialist, capitalist, communist, etc are very confusing, unless they are defined in the conversation. Granted I did use the term "communist" myself earlier without supplying a definition - my bad.

Weird day or

NYSE and United airlines technical glitch's
EU weighing out consequences

Officials widely denied any link to a cyberattack.

The FBI said in a statement it would "monitor the situation" but "no further law enforcement action is need at this time." Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Mary Jo White in a statement said "we are in contact with the NYSE and are closely monitoring the situation."

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson noted the glitch causing the trading halt and an earlier computer problem that grounded United Airlines flights appear unrelated.

On Tuesday, hacker group Anonymous tweeted a suspicious statement about potential problems on Wall Street.

As George Orwell so eloquently pointed out with Animal Farm, communism means two very different things:

1) The idealistic system that the revolutionary leaders promise before they get into power.

2) The oppressive oligarchy that is actually formed after the revolution.

You seem to be hanging on to the definition of communism as #1. This has been promised by Lennin, Castro, Mao, Pol Pot, and Ho Chi Min. #2 is what was actually practiced by Lennin, Castro, Mao, Pol Pot, and Ho Chi Min--and what JYL was referring to.

Whatever is happening, it's big. Time will tell but Maybe this is a "normalling" of the market. Or were a lot of things in China over valued?

I think a lot of things in China are overvalued. I also think that China's growth would have tapered off a decade ago had its government not spent so aggressively to keep it going. That's not to say that China won't grow again by leaps and bounds, but such growth can only be sustained for so long.
