Sleeping Pills / Sleep Aids

After years of not being able to get to sleep, I found something that works for me. I had used every OTC sleeping pill and found them < 25% of the time able to assist me in sleeping. Wife sees a DR Oz show and says watch this. He talked about Curcumin 95% and how it eases STRESS and is a sleep aid. I take 500 mg twice a day and my 6 week trial has been 100% good sleep in <15-20 after pillow time. Before Curcumin 95 I would lay in bed and toss and torn getting mad I could not sleep. Dr. Oz said it takes several weeks to really become effective. 13 cents a pill and no side effects for me. I know it is an Indian spice but what the heck.
Also saw how L-Arginine works as an anti-inflammatory and has made my tennis elbow non existent. Yes a TV doctor helped me sleep.

Good that you found something that works for you.

My 1st line of defense against insomnia is always exercise. A 5 mile moderate hike, 30 mile moderate bike ride usually results in my being too tired not to sleep well. When traveling across time zones I might also take melatonin at bedtime for 2 days to reset the internal clock.

Different things are effective for different people depending on the root cause of the problem.

I take a Phenergan each night. It has a warning "may make you drowsy" It certainly does. It's an anti allergy pill so it has extra bonuses as well and doesn't make you feel a bit dopey the next day.

What do you all recommend for occasional use, to get to sleep on a plane or when first arriving in a different time zone?

I'm gonna try it. All the drug out there either make so drowsy next day I can't function or the don't help me sleep. I will toss and turn for hours at night. I just can't shut my brain off I will lay in bed with my mind racing about stupid stuff and I can't make it stop. My wife is at the store right now and I will be trying the Dr. Oz snake oil I hope it helps.

Melatonin didn't work for me. Ambien works like a charm but it is easy to get dependent on it. Insomnia sucks...

I rid my life of some stress so now exercise and no late evening alcohol allow me to rest pretty good.

My doctor prescribed something named Lorazopam. Apparently it's something they give people to reduce anxiety/stress before medical procedures. It's not a dramatic thing but seems to really promote a good night's sleep. I call it the "magic pill." I only take it when I've not been getting very good night's sleep for a few days.

i'd be pretty scared to take an ambien on an airplane! i have no idea what i'd get up to, with a plane full of people as an audience....
