DO NOT give them to Goodwill, I took some perfect condition books to them and the guy threw them in a big bin, looked like recycling. I told him those were nice books and they should sell them, he just shrugged his shoulders, couldn't care less. St Vincent DePaul will take them

A bunch of my old books are now on the shelf of a local coffee shop a friend owns.

Wait -- people don't keep every single book they read?!

Says volumes about your general outlook on life. Cheer up, buttercup.
I frequently take/leave books in the neighborhood libraries. Its a wonderful thing. Found a giant, fascinating biography of Henry Ford in one of them.

Check with your local library. Many library groups now accept donations of old books. In some cases, they go into the library collection. In others they go to hospitals, thrift stores, etc.
My wife sells books on line for the local friends of the library organization. Library collections manager gets first dibs, my wife gets second, and the in-library book store gets third. The book store routinely sells hardbacks at 3:00 and soft covers at 1:00. Anything worth over about $10 goes to on-line sales and ends up on Amazon or Ebay. Profits go back into the library to fund things outside the normal city budget. Gary |

I've given crates of books to my town library. It's a small town.

I do.
I have over 200 hardbound books in my "library". About 30 of them are classic novels. The majority of the collection are either historical documentaries or biographies of political figures (founding fathers, presidents Ford, Reagan, Bush, etc.) A Time to Heal was a really good read. My favorite subject is The U.S. Constitution. I have a bunch of books on that subject. Just finished my latest book on the Constitution about a month ago. I enjoy building the collection almost as much as reading the books. I have no plans to ever get rid of any of it, or loan any of them out. Loaning a book is too often the same as giving it away. |
